This is awful… “ Take It To The Limit” is an all time classic.

Try And Love Again

Should be Try TO Love Again. That always bugged me but great song. Loved Randy's voice.

This has been a terrible year for musicians. Tina Turner, Bachman, Andy Rourke, Jeff Beck, Tom Verlaine, Gordon Lightfoot, David Crosby..

Keith Richards better not answer the door.

Rick Nelson - I Shall Be Released

You can hear Randy's high harmonies on the chorus and bass on this live track. Pure greatness

I wish Randy Meisner's story with Eagles ended better. Timothy B Schmit is such a frickin weirdo.

Found this great BBC video of the original lineup and they sound great
Eagles Live on BBC

Couple of take home points-

Bernie Leadon played at least five different instruments on just this video-acoustic guitar, Fender Telecaster, Gibson Les Paul, mandolin, banjo (and looks like Napoleon Dynamite) was previously a band mate of Gram Parsons and Gene Clark and Chris Hillman-all ex-Byrds
Man in the Fog- co-written with Parsons
Flying Burrito Brothers after Parsons left
Dillard Clark song that’s on Eagles first album

Randy Meisner(previously of Poco- replaced in Poco by Timothy B Schmidt) was a great bass player and sang great high harmony and tenor leads

Glenn Frey rocked the handlebar mustache and wrote great country rock songs for a Detroit boy-( he plays acoustic and sings background vocals on Seger’s Ramblin’Gamblin’ Man) He was in a band with JD Souther called Longbranch/Pennywhistle- also shared a house of some sort with Jackson Brown who co wrote Take It Easy( version of which appears on his second album) This is first time I’ve seen him play slide guitar which was later handled between Joe Walsh and Don Felder
Longbranch Pennywhistle

Don Henley has to be one of two greatest drummers who sang lead(Levon Helm) in rock history- He came out of Texas with an assist from Kenny Rogers who produced his band Shiloh’s album while being the star of First Edition. Is there a more iconic lyrical opening than Raven hair and ruby lips?

Shiloh album

These guys happened to all be recruited to play on a tour by Linda Ronstadt and most play on her first album too. Linda covers a nice version of Desperado. Desperado

That little acapella beginning to Take it Easy is a verse of an old folk song called Silver Dagger
- the verse they sing is
quote:

My daddy is a handsome devil He's got a chain five miles long And on every link a heart does dangle Of another maid he's loved and wronged.

The song probably goes back to Britain and contains various lyrics and song names - most notable version probably by Joan Baez and appears on Dylan’s 1964 bootleg as a duet with Baez.
A good version here Silver Dagger

Here is Jackson Brown, Linda Ronstadt, even Don Felder with the original four
Take It Easy
