This x1000. He doesn't get the recognition on guitar because he was too young for the rock explosion that fueled the dead, hendrix, allman brothers, etc., and he never played with a jam band (although some of his stuff with the revolution is as nasty as any jam band).

Prince could hold his own on the guitar with all of those guys and bands.

Welp, Keith Richards puts another notch on his belt.

J/k.

Sad day and great loss.

Just one more reason to hate those motherfrickers.

Eric Clapton was once asked what's it like being the world's greatest living guitarist. He replied, "I don't know. Ask Prince."

Rest in peace, Purple one. You were the music of my adolescent love life.

I was always in awe of the talent. Yeah, sure, his songs were lightweight pop, and were probably beneath his talent.

Those pop hits paid for his freedom to exercise his musical talent.

On another note, Google's name went purple and clickable in honor of Prince. Probably could have done something fancier, but they didn't have much warning.

Billy Ocean put out some "solid stuff".

Poison put out some "solid stuff".

Mary J. Blige put out some "solid stuff".

Prince was a transitional, transformative, and transgenerational musician. He was self-taught, and mastered--MASTERED--about a dozen instruments. For years, I've been of the opinion that he was Mozart of the last quarter of the 20th and first quarter of the 21st centuries. I believe he was as talented as Wolfgang.
