Do you like the Loud Family? Scott Miller is definitely underrated...

this is an extremely disappointing music forum.

I am going to have to agree with you on that comment and I've been reading this board from day one.

Also, I am much older than you and my musical tastes are widely varied. There are posters on this site who share the same taste as mine (not saying better taste than others, just similar to what I'm into) so I look for their posts to find what I like.

In the past, the "what are you listening to?" threads on the OT lounge turned me on to some great music and I looked for those threads every night.

You had to sift through the stuff you didn't like to find what you did like, but I routinely found great new tunes I'd never heard before.

The Music Board seems to be more of a music discussion board.... favorite guitarist, singer, this band vs. that band, etc. and that isn't what I am looking for personally.

I come here once or twice a week and look for posts by:

The Seaward
Ugly Casanova
TFTC
Sub
Dandy Lion
CDawg
Degas
and a hanful of others

I just steer clear of the red dirt country threads and anything else that doesn't interest me at all.

That said, if you're simply looking for a music sharing site, I would suggest joining 'This Is My Jam.' It's a British site and people from all over the world are on it.

I've been on that site posting a song every night since February and you follow others/they follow you like Twitter.

The site tells you who has comparable taste based on what you're posting/others have already posted.

This Is My Jam is heavily alternative in nature along w/ really good classic rock. There is virtually NO country, radio pop, or mainstream rap there, which suits me and the bands that are my most favorite are mainstays. So to anyone reading this who is into bands like:

Talking Heads
Velvet Underground
The Kinks
Neutral Milk Hotel
Wolf Parade
Modest Mouse
Bowie
Built To Spill
Jesus & Mary Chain
Rolling Stones
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
The Kinks
Pixies
New Pornographers
The White Stipes
The Jam
Alt-J
etc,etc,etc

You should join This Is My Jam in addition to posting here. It's just a much cleaner, faster way of discovering new music of all types as well as old music that is new to you.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate this board, but I do find it a bit slow compared to what I thought it would be.

KParkBro is my screen name on 'This Is My Jam' and if you're a fan of the bands I listed above, follow me on there and you'll be linked to hundreds of others who like similar stuff.

Just a suggestion and sorry for the long post.

I'm sorry I don't use your preferred website, but there's no need to be a jerk about it. I rather like Spotify and Googly Play, and have no desire to branch out. I also don't want to experience music socially with a bunch of teenagers, as I'm not a teenager.

People listen to different stuff. Though I've been unable to get the Cloud Nothings out of my playlists. I love their new album. Best punk album since The Monitor.

Why do I have to pick? And Cloud Nothings are very much a punk band. They are one of the most DIY projects out there, and their last album really was "Bedroom punk", as one guy pretty much created the whole thing without a band, just his own home recording. Very damn-the-man-I'm-doing-it-myself. Like the off the radar way he made music. And then, to round out the sound, he brought in a band for this album. That slow build on No Future/No Past sounds like mid-period Fugazi, followed up by the truly epic Wasted Days, which stops on a dime, changes the soundscape, and then ratchets back up the intensity with its mantra of "I thought I'd be more than this!" He takes Albini's production to its breaking point, and it sounds a lot like something Big Black would've done back in the day, had they wanted to make a nine minute song. And then the albums turns out a near pop punk number.

It's a stunning way to start an album. Very punk rock in the old standard of "Year Zero" and no rules. He moved a bit from the DIY ethic, but its still a band making music on its own terms, without a care for the mainstream. It's got hooks, but it tries to subvert them at every turn. It's a every punk album, and they'd fit right in with the first wave of post-hardcore bands.

You should, there are people of all ages on that site, but you'll gravitate towards people with similar tastes.

What I like about it is the setup. YouTube or HypeMachine videos are attached to the songs posted by each person every day w/ no commercials and there are 'like' and 'comments' buttons under each song.

Every day there is a 'today's popular jams' section and if you mouse over the postings and follow people who post songs that you like, you'll quickly get into a ton of music that you'll like.

ANY new releases that come out get posted pretty much on the day they come out and there are people from all over the world on This Is My Jam, so you get exposure to music that you may not hear in the U.S. - some of which is excellent.

Again, you have to play w/ it a little to get it dialed in and you have to sift through some stuff you don't like at first.

Many of the people on there are also on last.fm (though I am not) as well and you can connect through that or Spotify to make playlists, etc.
