Paul McCartney at the London Olympics opening ceremonies

Paul McCartney was great as usual but the crowd response in general was disappointing. We're in London frickin England and it's Paul McCartney playing "Hey Jude"
and the American athletes (when the cameras pans to them) acted like they didn't have a frickin clue what song they were hearing. just another example of how pathetic music has become the last 10 to 15 years. Over half the U.S. athletes at the Olympics probably have no clue who Paul McCartney is. Sad!!!!!

I completely agree, Tide. I blame shitty parenting. My kid will be exposed to The Beatles at a very early age along of course with the greats; Dylan, Stones, Floyd, Zep...you get my drift. Not showing your kids this kind of music is a form of child abuse. The earlier you learn about bands like this and hear what music can be then they will at least grow up with an ear for music and avoid most of the shite (99.9%) pop culture throws at you.

To be fair, Hey Jude is about as overplayed as Stairway. I'll never turn either off, especially with Macca playing, but I'd rather have heard something else.

Which is sad, because both are amazing songs. Everyone just gets tired of hearing them over and over and over because classic rock stations have a limited playlist.

Again, what the frick were you watching? Every time the camera panned to the US team they were swaying and singing. I'd say they and the British team were having the most fun out of anybody.

Agree. They tried (Costas and Lauer) to say he appeared to be emotional. I thought he just can't get all the notes anymore. Especially in an arena type environment. I thought he even shook his head at one point during the performance.

All I saw was swaying. With a confused look on their face. Appeared to be thinking "When do the 'Na-Na-Na-Na's' start?" Most of the athletes parents, like me, were too young to recall the Beatles IN THEIR PRIME. I was born into a world where they already broke up.

Paul was really bad at first. His voice sounded shot and he couldn't keep a pitch. He got better and better, though as the song went on and finished strong.
