Who was better?
This is a tough one for me because I go back and forth on this a lot.
Otis had songs that touched your soul. Sam was was more versatile and had an amazing voice.

Also the great thing about them...They both had great "Live Versions" of their songs as well. Listen to the Sam Cooke studio version of "Bring it home" and the live version. Just great and different. Sometimes when its not the studio version it sucks for some artists.

IMHO Cooke -- he certainly had the greater vocal range

This one is really tough. Try a Little Tenderness is absolutely incredible. Sam did have about 6 or 7 more years to work with, but both were gone too early.
Otis' deep soul and passion in his voice made it a surprise to me when I found out he was only 26 when he died.
I gotta lean towards Otis Redding, but I really like both artists.

Well. He was only 26. We technically may have never seen him in his "prime"
Going off what they did. I'd say Sam. What could have been? I think Im leaning towards Otis.

Sam Cooke, only because Otis never got to really show his range.
