Then it’s probably just not for your musical tastes. It’s got a lot going on musically.

What genre is this shite?

I just don't understand people that ask questions like this.

But if we must pigeonhole, the record sounds like a Tarantino soundtrack (think Death Proof's grind house style) with a lot of Stranger Things' synths.

I used to be like this. Refused to give anything country a chance. Sturgill changed that. I'll listen to anything if I find it interesting and I don't care what bucket or "genre" it does or doesn't fit into.

Some people don’t realize that music can exist without sticking labels all over it

After the 16th and a half listen it just finally clicked. This may be the greatest album of all time. For some reason I’ve always assumed that someone singing with a 5gal bucket over their head was a bad thing. Boy was I wrong. Combine that with muddled guitar riffs played thru vintage pre Civil War amplifiers, synthesizers that would make the Pet Shop boys cream themselves, inaudible lyrics and you have an album destined to zoom by Abbey Road and duke it out with Darkside and Sg. Pepper for GOAT status. I kid, I kid. Those 2 aforementioned pieces of shite didn’t even come with a cartoon you could use to get the album. This thing is the GOAT! Im so pissed that the old me was so stupid I couldn’t get the album. But I plan on cherishing my new enlightenment and discovering new artists in the fuzz rock, mouth full of marbles, broken amp, 80’s synthesizer genre. Thanks Sturg!!!

This is the only album I have, out of probably a couple thousand, that I feel like you almost have to listen to in succession to get peak enjoyment,

Yeah, definitely not an album you can pull a few tracks off of and put in a shuffled playlist

The second half of the album is decent, but it seems like SS is trying a bit too hard on this one.

The melt over this album from those who don’t like it has been great. No one is forcing you figs to listen to it or like it, you know that right? Is it ok if other people like something you don’t without your approval or understanding?

Is by you, not me. I'm perfectly content with you liking it and me making fun of it. So

So you wrote a whole paragraph mocking people who like it, and you don't think that comes off as you being bitter?

I'm not saying you are, but that whole post makes it seem like it. I personally don't care if you or others don't like this album.

Geez I hope not. Certainly not as bitter as those in the thread indicating that people who don't like the album are too stupid to "get it". It's all in good fun to me

I think he was making fun of the people comparing this album to 'Sgt Peppers' and 'Dark Side of the Moon,' which is pretty goddamn hysterical

I think it's fair to compare certain moments in the album to moments in other albums. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think people are saying things like "this is the next Dark Side of the Moon." If people are, I agree that it's a bit silly and premature to even utter words like that.

On a side note, in the Joe Rogan podcast Sturgill said that the album was held up a whole year because of the anime film. So the wait for the next album may be pretty short as they may have been already working on new material since then...just my thoughts.
