I said before but the Bakersfielfd sound was very unique and to my opinion is the best country sound. You have the sound of old country music that Nashville rejected fused with rock music that gave it an edgy sound. I believe that it influenced Gram Parsons and which gave way to southern rock of the 70s. The Beatles were big fans of Buck owens and you can hear some of it in West Coast bands such as the Eagles and CCR.
I think the postwar period -- roughly Hank Williams to the rise of the Eagles/Yacht rock and the triumph of the Nashville sound -- was the golden age of country music, w/the honky tonk of the '50s and its Bakersfield stepchild in the '60s.
"Southern Rock" was as much an outgrowth of heavy metal as country, if not more so.

Dwight Yoakum was the king of that sound in the late 80s early 90s.
He was never truly embraced by Nashville .

Jon Pardi isn't bad at all. I can certainly listen more of his stuff. I tried to listen to Morgan Wallen but his music just sucks. It just doesn't match his voice and that is a shame. If I was him then I would fire the band and get a sound that has a bit more kick. That pop sound is so boring and repetitive. Put some drive in your country as Travis Tritt would say.
