Had heard his music but wasnt a huge fan until I saw him with the Dropkick Murphys and The Mahones in NOLA a few months back. Great live show and great music.

We get into semantics, but I didn't list MGMT, Arcade Fire, or Phoenix because I can't imagine a definition of indie that lets in those bands.

And The Killers deeeeeefinitely isn't indie rock. I like them a lot, though.

Also, I thought Feist's first album was 8 different kinds of awesome. Listen to the song Brandy Alexander.

Well, the term "indie" can't be taken that literally, or half the bands we've mentioned wouldn't be indie. You don't think Phoenix has a record deal? MGMT? Passiont Pit? LCD Soundsystem? Sheeeyeeet....

I think they should just scrap the term indie rock all together and we should go back to using the term "college rock" or something. Nobody even knows what indie means anymore. We just try to make reasonable approximations of when mainstream officially starts.

Built to Spill has been on Warner Brothers for 15 years, and they are pretty much always referred to as an indie rock band.
