I love it so far. Read about half of it in two days and plan on finishing it this weekend. First chapter is a tear jerker.
Mike talks about how much more personality he has these days and nobody would have guessed he was gonna be the one that writes the story of the Heartbreakers.
I got the pre order one with his signature. Definitely worth the read.

Fayetteville had a longstanding festival called The Roots Festival. One of the best things about that festival was seeing how many of these musicians really loved playing. Not only would they take the stage to play their sets, but they'd have late night impromptu jams backstage, at people's houses, on the streets, at other venues.
That was the coolest thing about the festival was at about midnight, you'd hear that "so and so" was going to be at "such and such" house. You'd show up, and the next thing you know, you're watching world-class musicians and songwriters jamming and taking turns picking songs to sing/play... and just realizing that these people really loved playing music and would do it for free if they weren't getting paid.

A reporter once asked Sting if he was getting tired of touring
He answered by saying….I’m a musician, it’s what I do. I go to work, I have a job.
Guys like Clem and Mike Campbell no doubt enjoyed/enjoy playing, but they also have to pay their bills.

I always thought Mark Knopfler looked like he enjoyed playing on stage.

I'd throw Carlos Santana in this category. I 'very seen him lots of times where he gets into a zone and looks like he couldn't care how many people were listening and he does it with a smile.

Jerry Garcia would tour with the Dead and than go off with his own band. (JGB -Jerry Garcia Band) He loved to play for those that love licorice. He has a huge catalog outside the infamous Dead catalog.
Same for Bob Weir. He has played ALOT of live shows, perhaps more than anyone ever,

Paul Jackson, guitar slinger for Blackberry Smoke. No one smiles more while playing than that guy.

Vince Gill strikes me as this type of musician.
Saw him at The Ryman. Not a big fan, just wanted to see a live show. He killed it for 4 hours. Midway, he said something like, “We’re gonna take a short break (during which the backup singers did songs) and then come back and play another couple of hours, or until they shut us down. We just love to play.”

Who are the musicians who hate to play and don’t when they don’t have to?
Pete Townshend
I have read interviews we he openly states he was only touring for the money and he wouldn't paid 2 quid to see The Who
