Full disclosure, I work out at a gym that shares its space with a CrossFit box. There is a stereo system that plays whatever is plugged into the headphone jack.

People seem to be okay with rap, country, grunge, alternative rock, etc. Honestly, the only one that bothers me is country because it doesn't get me hyped up for a lift.

However, people always seem to lose their shite whenever I put on metal. One guy the other day referred to Strapping Young Lad (Devin Townsend's band with Gene Hoglan) as death metal and told me that I was scaring people with such music.

Personally, I like to listen to some heavy shite whenever I work out, but the females and pansy asses can't seem to handle it. Why is it that metal is so discriminated against at the majority of gyms?

It's an Olympic weightlifting/CrossFit facility. No A/C. Lots of shirtless douches.

This isn't your usual Snap Fitness or Planet Fitness joint.

You should have seen the look from some when Meshuggah's "Bleed" started playing.

Which crossfit box do you go to? I go to the one on government street. I wish someone would play meshuggah when I was working out.

even if it's on the loud speakers I would still listen to the same song on my headphones. I have to be in the zone and have no environmental noise.

I listen to metal quite a bit, but I can completely understand why the general public doesn't dig it. It's an acquired taste and can sound like disturbing screaming and noise to people who don't listen to it much.

On top of that: 50% of the population doesn't even acknowledge that metal exists as evidenced by the female attendance at metal shows.

Not a whole lot of people like metal. Most find it annoying and hard to listen to. Just use your headphones if you want to listen to music that doesn't appeal to the masses.
