Many were turned off after they lost their popish hits from Oracular Spectacular, but people that appreciated their evolution are mesmerized by each of their albums that followed. Maybe it’s acquired taste, but I am definitely not the only one. If you lost touch with this band after they produced more creative works, do yourself a favor and revisit each of their albums in its entirety. Start with Congratulations. I will go to my grave saying this is one of the best albums of all time.

Few of my favorites off of Congrats

Brian Eno

Flash Delirium
It’s working

Song for Dan Treacy

Few songs trigger my rage reflex and make me so aggressively change the radio station quite like "Kids". It's in the same tier as "Pour Some Sugar on Me", it's that bad.

I want you to call your parents tomorrow, mid morning or so, and when they ask how you’re doing…tell them the truth.

That is off Oracular Spectacular, which is my least favorite of their catalog, though I do not despise it like you ,

I have odd music taste, though many musicians agree with me. Paul McCartney is a huge fan as well. This thread may get more hate than my Tom Waits is the greatest living artist thread.

You just called them the most underrated band of a generation, you should celebrate their entire catalog

I just remember that song being absolutely everywhere in 2008-2010. It's one of those songs that I hated the first time I heard it, and then heard over and over and over again until I LOATHED it. It was on every radio station, in tons of advertisements, in tv shows, etc. It was impossible to avoid, much like the dreaded cover band songs like "Don't Stop Believing", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Brown Eyed Girl", and "Boogie Shoes".

I think the other part of it was it signaled the transition of my favorite alt rock radio stations from being more rockish (albeit with stale Shinedown, Seether, and Five Finger Death Punch type music) to more indie pop music (lots of Grouplove, Coldplay, Bastille, and Lumineers type bands)

I remember a friend of mine went to see them in concert when they were touring for Oracular Spectacular & a few days after the show I asked him how they were. His exact quote to me was "They acted like they wanted to be anywhere but playing live for us that night". I will never forget his quote.

Congratulations is a great album. Very looked over too.

But most underrated? Nah. I got tired of them being over played like most, but I've listened to each of their albums. Congratulations is the only one that stands out to me, and the others have a few good songs here and there (i.e. "Me and MIchael").

You created a post of TD that was immediately set up for divisiveness (bordering on trolling tbh) so I don't know about that, I'm calm like a bomb homeslice

Time To Pretend is a guilty pleasure of mine. Makes moving to Paris and shooting heroin sound pretty amazing.

That said I don’t know much else. Had my right knee fully replaced today though so maybe I’ll kick back with my oxy and do a deeper dive tomorrow.

First of all, OP does actually seem calmer than you.

Second, he saw your Office Space quote and raised you a quote from The Big Lebowski, which went over your head.
