I went both nights and hung out with the DFW metclub chapter for the weekend. I saw Rob and Kirk at the Ross Halfin book event Saturday afternoon and later that evening I met and bowled with the road crew. The sound engineer who controls the bands ear monitors gave us snake pit passes for Sunday's show. It was a great weekend. Metallica sounded great and the stage was a sight to behold.

Yes sir. Small venues are almost always better. Not dismissing the Metallica experience at all. It was my first time seeing them and they kicked arse.

However, Ted, musically was as good as he ever has been. Billy Bob's was fairly lax with the stay seated rule. I was on the rail so I was good.

That sounds awesome. I hope they have their shite together for LA.

Both LA nights were awesome. Got to meet Kirk and Lars. They were unbelievably engaged with the group and not at all just mailing it in.

Bumped into M. Shadows in the pit!

Went Friday night, and it was 33 years 364 days since the first (not last) time I’d seen them. Got to take my oldest to her first concert.
Great time, great concert.
Pantera was awesome.

I literally did not know Zakk was involved until...I fricking saw him up there! Got some killer shots of him. I think he's literally the only person with the gravitas to pull that off.

I thought their set was great too and the crowd was pretty into it.

How awesome is SoFi?

Was at first night of Phoenix show last night. Not going to Sunday’s show cause bf has his kids on Sundays. Amazing show though. But apparently James was having vocal issues and cut 2 songs from setlist. Master of Puppets and The Day that never comes. Hopefully he can rest up today for Sunday’s show.

But considering they usually end day one with Master of Puppets people seemed unhappy. I was disappointed but at the same time understand these guys are in their 60s after all.

You didn't know Zakk was involved with Pantera? Have you been in a Coma or something?

Yeah he was fantastic.
Did you realize the old Anthrax drummer is up there too? He was great.

Wasn’t at SoFi, I was at Arlington on the 18th, but Jerry’s World is a great stadium.

I feel bad for those that traveled in for just this weekend and can’t go to the rescheduled show. That’s the case for a friend of mine. Her and her daughters are crushed cause they can’t come back next weekend.

Since it’s rescheduled to a Saturday we are actually gonna try to find cheap tickets and go. Unsure who will open since both original scheduled openers for day 2 (FFDP and INK) are playing at different festivals next weekend.

ETA: but it is what it is. James was already struggling Friday night since they ended the show early (I read his throat was bugging him pretty bad). Guy is 60. Pretty impressive he performed for almost 2 hours with COVID. Apparently he got it at the L.A. show. Lots of people that were on the floor and snake pit at that show were mentioning they got COVID from that show.

This might be the best part of this situation. Anybody else is better than FFDP & INK. I am ready to see who they get to open. I couldn't believe how awful FFDP was when we walked into the Arlington show.

I looked at some Youtube footage & you could tell James was struggling towards the end. I talked to a friend in Phoenix who went who is a casual fan & not a die hard & he said it was one of the greatest concerts he has ever been to. It made me think that die hard fans of Metallica are way harder on the band than the casual fans and I admit I'm guilty sometimes of this.

We still had an awesome time at the show and thought they sounded great(and we were close to the upper level at that). I’m also more of a casual fan so didn’t pick up on the fact that James didn’t sing as much as normal. But I knew something was up when they ended early and didn’t play MoP. They obviously felt bad about ending early cause they spent a good 15 minutes or so at the end handing out cupfuls of guitar picks to the crowd and Lars had handfuls of drumsticks he was throwing to the crowd.

Eta: we met a few diehard fans in our section and outside the stadium before the show. All of them actually super super nice. One couple sitting behind us we chatted with most of the night and they bought us shots Married couple in their upper 50s that travel around to see Metallica. Were traveling to Copenhagen to see them next.

I'm usually not the "if x band member isn't in the band, then it's not REALLY that band" guy...However, with Pantera, come on - it's Vinnie and Dime. So, yes - I have literally not kept up with Pantera for many years.

I actually was asking people at the show the question: is he sitting in for this tour or is he "in" Pantera? Do you know the answer?

They have only booked this tour with Zak & Charlie filling in but it’s going to be interesting where this goes from here. Anthrax & Black Label are basically large club acts now & this Pantera tour is filling up arenas & amphitheaters & doing amazing business along with playing the Metallica tour one night a week this summer. Money talks in the music business especially in this economy.
