MB Drummers; Paiste or Ziljian?

Cymbal purchase is in my future. Obviously there are many choices. So a simple question: Paiste Giant Beats or Ziljian A or Custom A?
Which sounds best to your ears and do you own them? What do you play if none of these? Thanks.

I have a Sweet Ride, 20" A Custom Crash, and a 16" A Fast Splash. I've played around with a few others and they're good but my personal faves are the K Customs. My current set is 15" K Light hats, K Custom hybrid crash, and a K Light 18" crash.
I like the giant beats but I just can't pull myself away from the K Lights...or new beats.

Buy used if you can. I have a couple used cymbals...you can get great deals. If you go Zildjian, they have some "3-Pack Hi Hats" that are nice. I have a K Light top & bottom and a New Beat top, I saved a TON.

You can't go wrong with either one. Zildjian A and A customs will have a brighter tone, while K and K customs will have a darker tone. Paiste Giant Beats are slightly more dark that the 2002 line, but are still great for loud playing situations like the 2002s.
I use mainly Paistes, 14" Signature Dark Crisp Hats, 20" Signature Full Ride, 18" Sabian HHX thin crash, and a 24" Paiste 2002 Ride.

Yeah, I forgot. Paiste high hats (for me, anyway). Like the 'thicker' sound.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your input. I'm not playing music just yet., but mess around with Zeppelin and some jazzier rock when practicing. At the ripe age of 47, I have aquired my first drum set and am still rudimentary. The Gretsch kit came with entry Sabians and I'm itching to get the snare and cymbals proper. My instructor has some A Customs on his practice setup and they sound great, but wanting to get the cymbals I like has led me to these options so far.

A Customs do sound awesome, they are the ideal cymbals for nearly any kind of rock. One thing that may help you decide is go to YouTube and type in any cymbal you are looking for, there will be a video(usually multiple) from Mycymbal.com showcasing the cymbal.
For example, here is a demo of my hats from their site.
I've used this a lot when contemplating on which cymbal to get.
Also, eBay and Craigslist are your friends. If you have the money to spend, by all means, but them new. But I have bought all of my cymbals used at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks again! I watched quite a few youtube videos yesterday and they do help a lot.
I just watched your link and scrolled down a few to watch the Zildian 14s and both sound great. I can tell the difference in tones and that just adds to my confusion. Your high hats sound great!

In my opinion, you should try to find some real turkish cymbals instead of the machine made Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian stuff. Brands like Istanbul and Bosphorus sound much better and are hand crafted.

This. I'm a Paiste guy, personally, but, I've sat in on a few kits outfitted with various Zildjian models (A Custom, Z Custom and various K models) which I enjoyed.
I've always looked for that perfect mixture of dark smokiness with a nice, subtle shimmer and, to my ears, the Paiste Signature Series and Paiste Dark Energy Series have always pleased me the most, with the Zildjian K series and the old Constantinople series coming in a close second.
The most important factor is the kind of music you play...

Zildjian K, Paiste Signatures/Masters/Dark Energy, and Sabian HH are all hand hammered.
The choice to get hand hammered cymbals is up to the buyer as well. Machine lathed cymbals, Zildjian A, Paiste 2002/Giant Beat/RUDE, Sabian AA/AAX have a brighter tone, which is better suited for rock music or for playing loud.
