Interview

quote:

In anticipation of Tool’s performance at Monster Mash, Keenan spoke with David Accomazzo of the Phoenix New Times. Understandably many of the questions posed to him were about his three-time Grammy Award-winning rock band. “But as with any time he’s asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt,” Accomazzo notes, “A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose.”

Asked about the humor found in Tool’s albums, Keenan responded, “Yeah, it’s there, but people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullshite.” He added, “It’s lost. Insufferable people … It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”

quote:

In the interview, Keenan also admitted that the rest of the band “had to con me into” playing the Monster Mash performance, and when it comes to Tool’s long-awaited new album, he replied simply, “There’s nothing to say. I can’t.”

Instead, Keenan appears focused solely on his other band, Puscifer, which is set to appear at Monster Mash, ironically enough. In the interview, he also spoke extensively about his burgeoning wine business.

This is his only real passion now. Music is just a sideline to Maynard - maybe it always was just a path to get what he wanted and now he has it.

Perhaps....but perhaps he's just trolling the media and fans like he's always done. He likes the fans to be uncomfortable.

The master troll strikes yet again.

Throughout their time together as a band, they have gone out of their way to frick with interviewers and everybody else that probes too deeply.

The only thing you can truly go by is what they actually do. What they say is all calculated to misdirect and obfuscate.

No question - I have to remind myself - and especially with Maynard, but with any member of Tool saying anything at all: "A grain of salt at a minimum."

ETA: Remember that time Maynard made a movie with Brad Wilk and Ed Asner? Or the other movie where Maynard was the devil? Good times.

Whatever happened to the African American dude in Maynard's first band?

I remember all the way back to when Tool played that stoner band on Mr. Show in the mid-90s.

I also remember when they played Baton Rouge on the Lateralus tour. We got in before most of the crowd and as I was sitting in the stands I looked over there was this guy who was badly in need of a sun tan, with a shaved head, dressed up in this crazy all black outfit. He went on and on about how he was some kind of Satanic witch or some other bullshite and how much he was inspired by the band. I remember thinking to myself, "Damn, this cat takes this stuff way too seriously".

I think of people like that when MJK says something like he did in that article. I can't imagine what it's like to have some people obsess over every little thing you do and say like they do with Tool. I think it breeds a certain amount of contempt for a segment of their audience, which comes out in songs like 'Rosetta Stoned'.

People still listen to tool? I liked them a lot in the late 90's/very early 2000's but come on guys, it's time to move on.

The best part is Maynard calling other people insufferable.

I think it is a combination of "trolling" (typical for Tool) and being legitimately tired of people asking about it. Expecting an awesome album.

Also has anyone tried the wine? I bet it's good.

This hairdo, aka the human carrot, is the look of sheer insanity. Like he should be at a remote compound somewhere teaching dogs to speak

Was that when Meshuggah opened? I won tickets to that show from KLSU.

I thought it was a great show. I loved the visuals. But I was never the biggest Tool fanboy. I liked them OK. Still do.
