There have been some allegations leveled towards Tool and A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan in the last few days regarding sexual misconduct that we aren’t reporting due to their anonymous and completely unverified nature, but Keenan recently did an interview with NME (prior to this story which he hasn’t yet commented on) where he criticized the nature of social media and internet reporting. The quote is very eerie especially with what’s going on right now. The discussion moved to this topic after political issues were discussed.
“Oh, don’t get me wrong,” he says. “I am a snowflake. I am that liberal Democrat that wants to embrace people and help people. I’m sat here trying to work out what the frick is going on in my country we’re they’re separating children from families. And of course, my military and law enforcement Republican friends are, like, ‘there’s the snowflake’. I’m, like, ‘how am I snowflake for questioning children being separated from families?’”
He burst into laughter.
“And of course, there’s also the question of whether it’s actually happening, because can you trust social media? Clickbait is the currency. Something doesn’t have to be true, you just have to click on it. You just have to be incendiary. It’s such a fricking rabbit hole…”

Wow.
People actually believe Maynard would accuse himself of rape for publicity? This isn’t spray painting a racial slur on your fence level of conspiracy theory. This is being called a fricking rapist. There are people that no matter what he says/what comes of this will believe he’s a rapist for the rest of their lives, never following up on this.

I do not know the solution to this issue but it needs close examination and it needs reason and a clear head. It is true that no one wants to victim shame, but we shouldn't immediately believe all accusers and condemn the accused either.
Not commenting on whether or not the story is true here- if taken at face value though the first step in solving this is telling guys to find better forms of consent then simply “she didn’t push me off”
If not getting enthusiastic participation from the girl you’ve known all of 5 minutes, maybe you pump the brakes and either tone it down or explicitly ask?

Are you serious right now? Girl gets chosen out of crowd by handler and asked to go backstage. Only one thing is intended from this, and girl going is consenting. Girl then agreeing to go to the singer's tour bus alone with him is solidly in the consent circle.
This is rock band norm. EVERYONE knows this is how it works. THIS girl knew too. Best part is her leaving her boyfriend to wait for her by the stage while she went to bang the singer.
There are so many holes in this anonymous girl's story that it holds weight like a colander holds water. It's stupid on all levels

Look, I agree that most adults are aware of these norms. But a 17 year old? Probably but maybe not. She was barely of the age of consent at that point. Would a 15 year old know this rock star norm of sleeping with groupies, etc? A 12 year old? At what age is it reasonable to assume that everyone at that age should be aware of something like this?
I'm not saying the accusations are valid or not, but you are viewing this from a middle aged man's (I'm assuming you are) perspective versus a young and naive 17 year old high school girl's perspective.

Yes. 15yo's know more than you realize, and you did when you were 15. You just don't remember. 17yo's most definitely do. This girl knew what she was getting into, and she was willing (if this story is true, which I'm sure it is at least with countless other women).
When I first saw the headlines, my initial reaction was frick MJK and his bullshite. Reason forced me to put aside my emotions and read the full story. In doing so I saw the absurdity of this situation and its being called rape or sexual assault.
I personally think MJK is an arse. I love the music of most of his projects, but I don't allow that to cloud my judgement of him the person. I also don't allow every baseless claim do so either.
The unfortunate thing about this and other similar #MeToo stories that keep getting circulated is that it undermines the damage done to those who truly are victims. This #MeToo movement has become a way to be malicious against people and even more so to gain exposure and notoriety in the world via social media and such. People are addicted to "likes" and the endorphin rush they bring.

I do remember, but at the same time, I never even went to a concert until college because I grew up in a small town. Like I said, a 17 year old is probably aware of some of these things, but I'd give a 17 year old the benefit of the doubt that they may not, just like I'd give Maynard the benefit of the doubt that the story isn't 100% true.

I agree. I'm still wondering what is going to happen to Chris Hardwick. He's now had his wife and several ex's say that Chris never exhibited the kind of behavior he's being accused of. AMC's suspended him and he lost speaking jobs at some ComicCons. Can he recover from this? What will it take for him to get his career back if no further evidence is produced. IMO Aziz Ansari made a mistake by not denying the story by the girl he slept with. The story doesn't show that he did anything wrong, so it's honestly not the public's business to know the graphic details of his sex life. Now they do and he's seen as toxic in the TV / Movie industry. I honestly have a hard time watching stuff with him in it. It just creeps me out now. Maynard on the other hand is kind of fortunate because he is pretty much his own boss. Sure, Tool might have a record label but they don't necessarily need one. The fans will decide whether they believe the story or not and I don't think there will be much or any fallout from this, unless there are a bunch of other women who come forward with a similar story.

Be a little more specific as to what you are questioning. Aziz didn’t do anything wrong according to the girl’s story. That doesn’t mean that I can’t feel weirded out when I see him because i now know intimate details about his sex life.
If you found out that Chris Pratt’s wife loves a dirty sanchez, I’m sure it would affect future viewings of stuff he’s in.

Also suspicious is a since-deleted similar allegation made against Trent Reznor about an incident claimed to have taken place back in 1994. That tweet was originally made in reply to the Keenanaccuser, with both accounts having been shown to have been created within an hour of each other.
Worrisome about this is that the account that made the allegation against Reznor was created roughly an hour before the account that accused Keenanwas created, you can find evidence of that here. Again, there are a number of possibilities that could justifiably explain this, but it certainly stands out as suspicious.
