Something needs to be said about the musicians that Knopfler always has around him on stage too. Pretty damn incredible to see performances that damn tight.

I know we have a relatively well-versed group of fans on this board, but his low profile among the broader "rock" fan base notwithstanding, he is INCREDIBLY well respected by other elite musicians, similar to Clapton, IMHO.

Way bigger than that really, and he would be the last person that might brag.
He was handpicked by Chet Atkins to take his place, and while Knopfler was there, We got some damn incredible music, from some great artists. It was guitar music.

I don't know how many of y'all are credit readers, but back in The Day, Mark Knopfler was on everything, and your average Country Music Fan, never even had heard of him.

Mark knopfler is one of the people that you can count, on the fingers of 1 hand, that is tight with Bob Dylan.

That's something.

I wish sometimes, that I never heard of any 1 of those guys. Maybe I wouldn't hold myself to such high standards

Life could be a breeze.

He is also incredibly humble. I don't think he thinks of himself as one of the best of all time, even though he is. When I saw his show this year he said that his band played something like 50 different instruments and he only played one.

Yes he is. I've seen a video about when he got his first electric guitar.
He knew that his Dad worked hard, He was a machinist at the shipyard. His Dad Bought him a telecaster, but he didn't have an amp, he didn't have the heart to tell his Dad that he needed more. He learned how to make it work through a radio.

I think "Claim To Fame" is a tribute to his Dad.

He's not only a great guitarist, but also an outstanding songwriter, singer and arranger.

If I was sentenced to have to listen to only one song for the rest of my life it would be Sultans if Swing. Just impossible to get tired of it. That and Interstate Love Song by STP.

I'm not going that far, but you picked 2 pretty good songs there, my brother.
