I’ve never paid and attention to him other than thinking he was the ugly duckling who married Julia Roberts.
Well, at last nights free Woodlands 50th anniversary show, he gained a fan. Unique sounding and folky with heart behind every word. The stories in between songs and his chemistry with the Large Band, were so engaging. He also seems like a damn fine human being.
I may not keep it on a loop, but I will lightly blend in his stuff moving forward.

I was given tickets a few years back to see him in Lafayette.
Really enjoyed the show/music.

I have seen Lyle 15 times ( mostly Red Rocks) including this month at Tipitinas. Do yourself a favor, listen to the Joshua Judges Ruth album from start to finish. He is on my personal top 10 lists of favorite artists ever. It’s a damn shame people are as unfamiliar with his catalog as they are. That audience chemistry and that humility has never changed. He’s a national treasure. Relentlessly melodic, intelligent, perfectly arranged, harmonic- his music has an elegance and sophistication that I absolutely revere.

I was there as well. I’ve been a fan of my Aggie brotha for a long time.
His voice is not the same since his stroke but he still can sing pretty well.
My favorite album is The Road to Ensenada. Lot of post Julia break up stuff. Still can’t believe he stooped so low as to marry that strumpet.
Also go listen to his double album Step Inside this House. It’s all covers if his favorite Texas songwriters. But it’s excellent - and you will probably have never heard of the original versions so these will be your standard for each song.
