Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does

But you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was

The smell of Cape Jasmine through the window screen

John R. and The Wolfman kept me company

By the light of the radio by my bed

With Thomas Wolfe whispering in my head

I can still see the soft Southern wind in the live oak trees

And those Williams boys still mean a lot to me

Hank and Tennessee

I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be

So what do you do with good old boys like me?

Sweet Home Alabama

"I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around anyhow". Can't believe no one has mentioned this one yet.

Check out "play it all night long" by warren zevon, "southern man" and "alabama" by neil young, and "rednecks" by randy newman. All classics about southern living.

Darius Rucker - Southern State of Mind

I could be anywhere
In my heart I'm always there
Where they drink sweet tea and they raise you to be polite
No changin' who I am
That's the way I've always been
No matter what state I'm in
I'm in a southern state of mind

Last Child - Aerosmith

I'm dreaming tonight, I'm living back home
Right!
Yeah...yeah

Take me back to a south Tallahassee
Down cross the bridge to my sweet sassafrassy
Can't stand up on my feet in the city
Gotta get back to the real nitty gritty

Yes sir, no sir
Don't come close to my
Home sweet home
Can't catch no dose
Of my hot tail poon tang sweetheart
Sweathog ready to make a silk purse
From a J Paul Getty and his ear
With her face in her beer

Home sweet home

Get out in the field
Put the mule in the stable
Ma she's a cookin'
Put the eats on the table
Hate's in the city
And my love's in the meadow
Hands on the plow
And my feets in the ghetto

Stand up, sit down
Don't do nothing
It ain't no good when boss man's
Stuffin' down their throats
For paper notes
And their babies cry
While cities lie at their feet
When you're rockin' the street

Home sweet home

Mama, take me home sweet home

I was the last child
I'm just a punk in the street

'That would be unsouthern,
Not me cousin.'

Andre 3000 in Pink Matter.

Not really the best example, but I just love the line.

you know what makes the music good is not just about the lyrics saying something specifically about the south...its about a sound....and an attitude...and references to things that are specifically Southern

Ya. True. Something about my suggestions that prompted this? Good bad or indifferent?

Pine trees grow so tall in the bright sunshine
A young boy steals his daddy's fishin' line
An alligator lays on the banks of a riverbed
And if you didn't know any better you'd swear he's dead.

Now these are a few things I'm in love with
A small part of the reason I go back
To Carolina, Mississsippi, Florida, gorgeous Georgia
Now if you think I'm happy down there you're on the right track.

I'm a gold mouth dog
Definition of the south
Ain't no quarters, ain't no halves,
Just some wholes in dis house
Ain't no bitch
It ain't no bed
It ain't no clothes in dis house
It's a drought
And my price will make yo eyes pop out
I can't neva count my stash
Cause I always loose count
I cant neva keep no bitch
Cause I put them hoes out
I was corner stoor'n in imotellin it sellin it
You can check my rap sheet
It's numourous felonies
I took 23 stacks
And bought some jet skis
Have pity for the cop
Who gotta arrest me
A front street jump street
Den jump out it's a track meet
Use to have a 10 speed
Now I got a Bentley.
