How many of you guys take advantage of your local independent radio station?

Most cities have them, do you guys listen to them? Usually these are left of the dial. Ours here is 88.1

I find it interesting that a lot of people in my city, St. Louis, have never heard of KDXH, which is our independent station. But then there are a lot of people who only listen to this station.

They play amazing music on there, great variety of shows. Blues shows, bluegrass, reggae, even old school rap shows, some shows with new music. It's great because they don't have to be slaves to the music industry, they can play music without money being an issue.

Wow, you know the wood? You really are a radio guy

Yeah it is, but its the station for a college here, Lindewood University. It's nothing at all like 88.1 KDHX, but it is at least not totally mainstream like the traditional stations.

I'm listening to WFPK out of Louisville right now, Jim James (My Morning Jacket) has a radio show called Sir Microcosm, it's amazing. I just wish they had archived shows available (there is a couple on soundcloud, but that's it).

Gotta give some love to Birmingham Mountain Radio, which is where the heritage-alt WRAX and Live 100.5 crew have landed.

Though it's not like it used to be, WEGL in Auburn, the student radio station, is the bomb.

I'm home for the holiday weekend, but I've been wanting to start a super sized thread with hundreds of radio/music links.

I'll do it next week ...

The one from Lincoln U is fantastic. They have the best slow jam programming around 8-12 nightly.
