Side 4 is substantially weaker than the rest of the album, and it ends in the most discouraging way ever, with a sickly lullaby!
Side 1 is OUTSTANDING, and side 2 is nearly as good, with a couple of timeless ballads in there.
I like the uninhibited rock anthems on Side 3 as well.

Dear Prudence could be the best song since 1968

I had forgotten just how much I love and listened to this album when I was younger. I bought my first copy when I was 16 or 17, and I went to sleep every night for a LONG time playing it with the headphones on. The first side had me mesmerized (but irritated when Wild Honey Pie and Bungalow Bill played), but the relaxed lull and brief studio piddling before slamming into Guitar was the most anticipated moment of the album *every time* for me. Finally drifting off to Happiness was the best ending to a day for me. No drugs either...until my 20s, anyway.
Revolution 1 is a heavy favorite (just as good as listening to Floyd with headphones) and I remember hating that it was on side 4 because usually really didn't like any of the others on that side. Trying to go to sleep to #9 was jarring and creepers me out. But it was a PITA to get up to flip it or switch.
A much harder question I always ask myself is what songs would I want on a 1 disc album, with a 15 or 16 song limit and in what order? I would always end it with Revolution 1.
