I don't get why you are laughing, it's really not even close, Bieber isn't even that close at 2nd, with One Direction about to pass him.

So Katy Perry? Teenage Dream broke all kinds of records and her movie grossed over 30 million at the box office.
Teenage Dream is one of 3 albums EVER, to have 6 singles hit the Top 5.
Again, no one is really even close to Katy, but I applaud your effort.

Her singles usually have the shelf-life of a month. They shoot up to #1, stay there for a week or two, and shoot back down. She's a singles artist.
Adele's last album solid over ten million in the US alone. Eminem is still bigger.

Eminem isn't even active to be included.
Adele is Top 5 probably.

Adele's last album went diamond. That's absolutely insane in this market and something that Katy Perry will never come anywhere close to.

He hasn't had an album in over 3 years now.

Yet Katy Perry is bigger and made more money, again, Adele is good, and may crack the Top 5.

Nobody would know who the frick Katy Perry was, if she didn't look like a slutty Zooey Deschanel with huge boobs.

Album sales, imo, trump media coverage, commercials, etc. Adele's last album sold over ten million, which is absolutely insane in this market. Eminem was the biggest album seller of the 2000s and is still active. Katy Perry can't touch either of those two. And I'm not a fan of either of those two. I actually find Eminem obnoxious more often than not.

Yeah I take album sales, top singles per album, how many top albums/singles an artist has had, and of course all the other things like movies/popularity.
If Adele can produce another solid album then she may get up there, but as it stands Katy has 3 albums to Adele's 1, as Adeles first album, while it did decent, is behind all 3 KP albums.

Katy Perry has released two albums on a major label. First one (One of the Boys) sold 1.5 mil; second one (Teenage Dream) sold 2.6 mil.
Adele has released two albums on a major label. First one (19) sold 2.3 mil; second one (21) sold 10.6 mil.
Katy Perry gets more coverage on TMZ, though. I'll give you that.

Right, but it had more hits.
You are only taking one thing into consideration here and that's just not how it works.
#1 single I Kissed A Girl, Top 3 single Hot N Cold, Top 10 single Waking Up In Vegas, Top 30 hit Thinking Of You.
Adele's first album didn't have any big singles with the biggest hitting #21 for a short time. It was bigger oversea's where she is from, she didn't really get big over here until her last album.
She also isn't releasing her new CD until 2014, so KP will have 3 high ranking albums to her 1 until she finally releases her new one. 3>1.
Adele may crack the Top 5 behind Perry, Bieber, One Direction.

adele has released two albums. 19 and 21 I believe (maybe it's 23?)
sales are not a great reason as to like a band or musician. ok, so a lot of people bought her music; a lot of people bought bon jovi records. not a lot of people bought cash, dylan, neil young, velvet underground, and the list goes on and on.
you like music because you like it, not because the music business—a business that has the heart of a 108-year-old army vet on life support—tells you to follow the crowd.

Album sales >>>>> single sales.
Either way, judging the success of a single based on its peak position isn't telling the full story, anyways. Most of Perry's hits have little to no shelf-life. Compare that with a song like "Chasing Pavements" that stuck around for a while but didn't get all that high on the charts (that #21 hit).
I don't really get why I'm arguing over which pop artist is bigger, anyways. They'll all be irrelevant in five years (except for maybe Adele, as she actually has some talent).

Sounds like this one is an improvement then.
Oh I'm sure plenty will like it and it'll be on the radio 4 times an hour for 3 months
Maybe I was wrong.

Either way, her success not only says alot about the state of the music industry but entertainment as a whole.
Take her for what she is, but don't be foolish enough to believe she's more than that.
