For those who are good 'ol American TOOL fans, have you given Karnivool a shot? From Australia, they took a lot of influence from TOOL with regard to complex song structures, etc., arguably copied that some might say.
Try on: All I know, Deadman, Goliath, Simple Boy, Umbra, Shutterspeed
They translate well to the live stage as well, just as TOOL does.

I’ve tried replacing TOOL over the past couple of years with some of these bands. It’s blasphemous but I got tired of waiting 10,000 days for them to release their next masterpiece. For me, no one has come close. I’ve just accepted that I’ll have to wait for whatever they’re going to release whenever they’re going to release it.

Love me some Karnivool. Not even a huge Tool fan and I still listen to Karnivool a lot. New album should be out sometime this year I think.

Nice!
NO it's not a replacement for TOOL, but it didn't take long listening to them that their songs had a TOOL-ish feel at times. Very good on stage as well if you check out YouTube vids. Would like to see them next time they make it to the states

Altered State
This album in particular definitely scratched my Tool itch but their other stuff is also great.
Periphery
Skyharbor
The Contortionist
There's some excellent Progressive metal out there

Listen to New Day live. Its amazing. All of the Sound Awake album is very good. If they would ever play in the States I would go

Yea definitely, I stream the live shows that are on Youtube regularly. No it's not the theatrics of a TOOL show, but they are solid on stage which is a lot more than can be said for most of the arse clowns coming into prog/alt rock these days that are so heavily produced in studio.

I love Karnivool. Sound Awake is a top 10 album of all time for me. Deadman into Change pt. 1 into Change pt. 2. is fantastic.
