I've seen them only once and was too far away to tell, but googling their name and pre recorded and the like comes up with similar thoughts.
Some say that some of the the instrumentalists (violin and guitar in particular) are fake-playing at least some parts, others say no, and some say the orchestra sound is "electronically processed" to make it sound like a larger group.

Saw them last year. I wouldn't doubt if there were some enhancements, but IMO most or all of it was live. I know alot of 80's rock alumni catch alot of heat (and I've been guilty of picking on that era, too), but the more disciplined musos usually played tight AF...so I could see someone thinking TSO is miming to pre-recorded music, when they're actually not...

Meh - at least they could play back in the day. From the 90s on, playing ability became less and less important.

Let me be more specific....they caught alot of heat for their image, but their abilities mostly weren't in question (I say "mostly", because guys like CC DeVille existed too, lol). Many had the discipline of classically-trained musicians, which is why I'd suggested that they could be inserted into a large ensemble ala TSO and fit in well.

So sick of these fricking libtards. I can't even go see an orchestra without having the trans agenda shoved down my throat.

Wow really? I'm a republican. Trump all the way but Trans Siberian Orchestra has absolutely nothing to do with what you are talking about. You are either a smart arse or a troll. You give conservatives a bad name with that kind of ignorance.

Watching it now. On Christmas in Sarajevo
No ad libbing or jamming at all. Just playing like it's straight off the recording.
Let's see if they play tracers w Shine on

Wow—that went right over your head, and yes, you were trolled...and with your first post you chide a poster with 20k posts...please get better....YOU are embarrassing conservatives with YOUR ignorance.

Why make such a stupid post on a thread like this then? Are you that bored and need attention? Extremely immature.

He must not be as bored as you. You got trolled by a three year old post. Welcome to the internet.

I know this thread is 3 years old but it got me to investigate.
I've only been able to watch a few of the live vids on YT. I agree with the poster that elements may be pre-rec but most is live. I do think the drummer is playing to a click. There is SO much stuff that needs to be triggered for lighting, special effects and mixing that I think to keep that all in sync there is a click track. I know they can have people "performing" those moves live but I think they likely use a click to help that. And if they are using sync, then it's easy to have stuff coming off the computer. BUT, I think they are playing most of it live. I see and hear small imperfections that pass for live performances but would likely be fixed for a recording. Things like plosives on the mic, strange notes here and there. Very small things. Certainly nothing that takes away from a live performance but would likely be fixed in a recording. To be honest, there is a lot of music in that that isn't that difficult. Sure some of the solo stuff is flashy, but the bones of the core music isn't. It looks like it would be a great show!

Head over to the Audiophile/vinyl thread...I will address you there regarding your idiocy.

well sometimes...guilty as charged!
There are days I get a real charge out of playing “turtle” with Mrs. Esquandolas (immature).
Then there are days I ponder the positive and negative attributes of implementing global negative feedback, and it’s effect on third-ordered harmonics in a tube rectified, point-to-point circuit (not immature).
...so it really depends what day of the week and time of day you catch me.
And as always...

Saw them a few years back in N.O. Good show but a bit too long. Was really hoping to see Jay Pierce as one of the vocalists, but he wasn’t in that group. Always loved this version of....

Don’t worry. They mailed it in last year. Show wasn’t even two hours. By ten, they were done.
