Nashville is just pop music with a fiddle now for the most part.

Nashville pop has focus groups that decide what the marketing teams should focus on.

Then those marketing teams get with the songwriters. I have a friend of mine who is a Nashville song writer.

Luke Bryan cut one of his songs recently.

i'm a firm believer that pop country is 98% horseshite, but i can't really say that i fault the people for making it because who turns down money for their product, albeit a shitty one? the fault lies with the consumer/listener. most of the people that i know that enjoy the pop-country are not on the same intellectual level as i consider myself. the song said something about a pickup truck and cold, cold beer and cutoffs? frick yeah, that's my jam. i am in no way knocking cold beer, daisy dukes or pickup trucks, but just because you are singing about it doesn't awaken a part of me that i considered lost. i might enjoy the simplicity of it when i want to turn off my brain for a few, but it isn't going to send me into a reflective state or have any impact on me whatsoever, other than stir up feelings of bitterness because these artists/songwriters are making money for something that i consider an inferior product.

this shite pisses me off so much. For example: I was a Hootie & The Blowfish fan (Cracked Rear View is one of my favorite albums), but I just refuse to accept Darius Rucker as a country singer. I even like a couple songs but can't bring myself to listen when it comes on the radio. The others like Cheryl Crow just piss me off to no end.


There is no longer a generic genre of music any more that plays Rock/Pop as it used to be called. Rock has gone it's own way and pop music has split between Rap and Country. These old arse artists don't have a home any more so they throw them into country and it drives me nuts.


With that said, I only listen to XM59 for the Highway finds. Once I like a song, I download it, and I am always either listening on my ipod or XM58 Prime Country.

Another thing, XM is currently interviewing Laura Bell Bundy and she says the line every wana be "country" artist says: "oh, I grew up loving country music. my mom bought me my first guitar when I was 3 and ive been singing ever since". I get so fricking sick of this shite. If you grew up "loving" country music, then why the frick did you go to acting/dancing/broadway rather than really try to make it in country?

They just debuted this LBB song. I'm sure it'll be a #1 sooner than later. Unfrickingreal.

Isn't that pretty much true in any genre with big record labels?

Not defending them, but "country" isn't unique. The labels want, and have always wanted, to make money. With a more fragmented audience, they believe generic shite that doesn't offend anyone is the best way in all platforms. Which is why radio sucks donkey dick.

Just look at how the "country family" has treated the Dixie Chicks for having a different opinion.
