I think they are pretty lame, though they have had a few catchy tunes over the years.. I don't hate them though..

But the best live band in the world will be at the Sub T in Chicago next Saturday.. Rocket from the Crypt

I really liked their old stuff. I listened to X & Y a lot. Vida da whatever is a song I hope never to hear again. I went to their show in NOLA a few years ago; great seats, first row of seats above the floor. By the end of the show, i basically did the Seinfeld gif, I'm done. It was super hokey. I hadn't seen so many balls bounced around since Kenny Chesney at Bayou Superfest '98.

I hate that they deviated from this style of music to the current rubbish they put out.

Coldplay - Cemeteries of London

I agree 100% but I will say listen to "Midnight" from Ghost Stories - I am adamant that that is their best song ever - and very much in the experimental vein of the Bsides from "Viva".

Coldplay and U2 both eschewed their best genres for commercial success. U2 should have stuck with gritty, European style alternative and electronica (Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop) and Coldplay should have stuck with their symphonic, prog rock (Viva la Vida, Rush of Blood, and bits of X&Y and Ghost Stories).

I don't know man...while not a bad song, I was waiting for it to take off or change direction. It never does.

My favorites would easily be:

Cemeteries of London
Spies
A Whisper
Daylight
High Speed
God Put A Smile on Your Face
Talk
Low

I'm not a Coldplay fan. They do nothing for me, but I don't get the hate. 90% of the time, when I talk with people complaining about how lame Coldplay is, they then follow it uo with, "hey, listen to this new indie band, they're so f$&king awesome!"'and they'll play some obscure indie band which sounds exactly like Coldplay!

I think a lot if people who hate on Coldplay would love it if they thought it was some obscure indie act. How can you hate Coldplay while loving bands that sound just like them? Seriously, that spacey, poppy, indie techno bullshite doesn't suck just when Coldplay does it.

To each is own. What makes music great is that out of every different type of styles, there is something in that vast pool that appeals to each of us.

If that's the band that makes you happy then enjoy.

I like early Coldplay albums but everything they release now is the gayest shite I have ever heard.
