Just found out my friend is new lead for Hinder

Wow, just talked to my buddy whom is the new lead for Hinder. Even though I particularly prefer much heavier music, props to him! He was producing them for the last three years and they offered the lead spot to him. He is a talented guitarist also. GOOD LUCK BUDDY!!!!!

He's doing what he loves with a moderately successful band. I'm not a Hinder fan by any means but if they offered me their drumming gig I would take it in a heartbeat.

Of course not!
It did seem a little demeaning to what he's doing though.
I have a friend that plays with a few bands similar to Hinder in terms of success. It is crappy music and he'll be the first to tell you but he is doing what he loves.

As a musician, I would say it is similar to a professional athlete who plays a season or two (or several) with a team that is not very good. The team may not win many games, but, the athlete is still doing what he loves. It may be similar to any job, if the person is doing what they love to do, but also endure some aspects of that job that are not enjoyable.
The music business is, unfortunately, not much different from any other business. Musicians will jump at those kinds of opportunities because it's a large paycheck and it also opens so many doors for other opportunities...

I'm not sure if that's a fair analogy. His friend isn't joining a band that has little experience and doesn't know how to play their instruments.
I think a better analogy is if an aspiring pro athlete joins a team that's well known for doing steroids and taking cheap shots at opposing players when the refs are not looking, which is something that the pro athlete is strongly against. The pro athlete joins the team because he's willing to sacrifice his values as an athlete for a paycheck. Sure, playing for this team may give him some experience and open up some doors, but the doors may not be the ones he truly wants.

By trade my friend, the new lead, is an amazing guitarist. John Pertrucci ish. Just couldn't find a place to make it. Look him up. His solos are second to few.

I've ben in bands in the past where I was playing music that I didn't like, but it was till absolute blast. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The fun of plying in front of crowd enjoying the music you're making supersedes the lame factor of playing music you don't like.

Playing music is enough on its own for some people. They don't need the creative aspect to go along with it.

If i got offered a gig playing rhythm for some chick country singer I'd take it in a heart beat.
Getting paid to play guitar and tour? That's the dream dude. And you get your name out their in the music industry, make connections, and keep working towards the goal of playing the music you love one day.
