How many bands from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s
Owe a huge a debt of gratitude to those guys? I mean there are dozens who weren’t just influenced but directly imitated their sound and songwriting. This just popped into my head for some reason while watching a documentary on XTC. Weird.

Off the top of my head, we wouldn't have Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Radio Head, Muse, or what The Cure eventually became without Joy Division's influence.

Was introduced to Joy Division at college in the mid-80s. Love them.
Their influence on 80s and 90s alternative was significant. For me, "Warsaw" is right there with the Clash's self-titled debut, and "Nevermind the Bullocks."
Still have all of my Joy Division vinyl.

Interpol and The Strokes are obvious.

Goats for sure.
As a general rule I stay away from biopics. Control however is remarkable. Easily my favorite portrayal of a musician on screen. Sam Riley as Ian Curtis is excellent. If you’re a fan of joy division, or just a fan of good movies, Check it out.

the movie about the Manchester music scene with Steve Coogan is also excellent, “24 hour party people”

24hr Party People is an incredibly entertaining movie, and it’s very informative about the Manchester scene.
Coogan was amazing.

Control was a fine movie, but 24 hr Party People provide a fuller picture, imo
