quote:

A little ditty 'bout Jack & Diane
Two American kids growing up in the heart land
Jack, he's gonna be a football star
Diane's debutante, back seat of Jacky's car
Suckin' on chilli dog outside the Tastee Freez
Diane sitting on Jacky's lap
Got his hands between her knees
Jack he says
"Hey, Diane, let's run off behind a shady tree
Dribble off those Bobby Brooks
Let me do what I please"

Jack and Diane but most of the lyrics are "suckin' on a chili dog"

The music wasn't all that bad, but his lyrics were shite.

Like I mentioned in the 80s thread, strip the 80s synthetic technology out of 80s music....and then watch it come to life

Pretty dramatic way to say you didnt enjoy a particular song

He went on to make sixteen more albums

Sixteen.

I wanted to agree with you, but

Rush made ten studio albums after Signals.

Ten.

How dare you, Cherry Bomb is the GOAT. JCM is a goof in real life, but I still like him.

He claims a doctor removed his head during surgery in order to correct spina bifida. He's a moron.

He’s one of the few musical icons of the Midwestern heartland. And people that dont understand or appreciate his significance have shitty instincts

Here’s another one that gets even better with the 80s stripped out of it.....

I lost interest after just one.

No problems with John Mellenkamp. I had a neighbor my freshman year who met him on a beach in South Carolina during spring break and took a photo of him. That was before selfies so it was just him standing there in shorts and a t-shirt. But she said he was just a regular dude.

Of all the cringe lyrics in music, especially today, what is it about sockin on chili dog that makes you e-giggle so much?

Have you heard that Zac Brown chicken fried song where all the sudden he squeezes in a lyric about how good the fit of his jeans makes him feel on fridays?

Start a thread about it and lets trash his whole catalog

The great Mick Ronson made that song a hit for him.

Mellencamp was in a wad, and showed all to Ronson (who had a lot of work stateside, after having launched Lou Reed), who put in the handclaps, let it rock and roll BS.

He obviously didn't spend time on the lyrics (couldn't anyway, what does a Hull boy know about chili dogs).

Odd bedmates, Mellencamp (then Cougar) must have been a basket case on his last leg, with the label that had both Reed and him.
