The interesting thing about that video is that the vocals are live

That is why I posted it. The tension is palpable. McCartney is chomping at the bit, and George doesn´t look really complacent.

Meh - I don't get it from this. I mean, I know all the fights - Paul complaining about John spending all their time and money making songs that were only interesting to him, and John complaining about Paul's "granny" music.

But, I just don't get it in isolation from this video. Looks like a group of highly skilled musicians (plus Ringo) trying to appear they're having a good time playing the song, only somewhat unconvincingly.

no big deal. I don´t see Paul as ´all in´, and I see the beginning of George saying WTF.

They all were hearing distortion, and surely digging it.

Not so sure Lennon doing this was to their liking, as they all were chomping at the bit (to do something with phased out guitar).

It´s a clip, and a great one.

I see no visible rancor whatsoever. I don't know where the OP is getting that.

And Ringo was a very good drummer. That old thing where people slag him is a sure sign they don't know what they're talking about.

Yep.... left handed and playing the kit as a right hander.

I always found Ringo to be a good enough drummer who would show some signs of substantial talent on certain tunes (i.e. "Rain.")

For a musician who was/is not highly skilled, he seems to be cited as a major influence by just about every successful drummer in the years following the Beatles heyday.

The best drummers, and guitarists for that matter, aren't necessarily the ones who play the fastest or loudest. Ringo was the perfect drummer for the style of music The Beatles played. He was a good drummer. Listen to what some excellent drummers say about Ringo.

I'm just going along with the cool kids in knocking on Ringo. He was the right drummer for the Beatles - the biggest rock band there has ever been and will ever be. I'm just a schmuck on a message board.

From an objective standpoint, Ringo did not add much via songwriting or singing - and what he did (at least with the Beatles) isn't particularly outstanding. It is also difficult to distinguish yourself in a good way when your bass player is a better drummer than you are.

Having said all of that - Ringo had a unique signature sound on the kit, definitely didn't overplay and while not the greatest timekeeper in the world, presented the right kind of personality, both on stage and in public appearances when you consider 2 of the other 3 were practically hermits.

So, whatever else we can say about him, he is almost synonymous with "drummer" since the mid-1960s.

Don't get that at all. Paul looks like he's having a blast.

You're dreaming dude. It looks to me like their having fun. Paul and George dropping some doo-wop harmony in there and John making orgasm sounds. Great tune.

The guy couldn't do a simple press roll. Sorry but he wasn't a good drummer. Compared to his contemporaries, he was just talented enough to do the job. Jo Jones, Art Blakey, Louie Bellson, Kenny Clarke, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Roy Haynes. Now those are THE drummers of the early 60's.
