It's like those modeling agencies that claim they will make you a STAR...but they need 10K to do so. She probably is good, but unfortunately for her there are all kinds of con men trying to take advantage and capitalize on the dreams of young people trying to make it. fricking scumbags. I'm sure she wants so badly for it to be a reality that she's acting against her gut. Poor girl.

I would agree if she just foolishly didnt get a lawyer to read over it or couldn't afford one but to sign a legal binding contract against your lawyer's advice is just a dumbass move

Yeah, your friend was foolish and probably thought with her heart and not her head...
Its not uncommon to sign to a label and be in "debt" to them, meaning they are going to take out whatever they invested in you to record, promote, etc. the record, before you would see any money.. but that usually means the artist never really sees a dime, but they dont actually have to pay that back...
