Been listening to both Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations lately, just two albums that get better the louder you play them.

Origin of Symmetry is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Muse was one of the best up until they blew up with The Resistance. That record had a few great moments, but it was inconsistent and the beginning of the end for their greatness. They were one of the best live shows you could catch. The production was exceptional, they had fantastic stage presence, they are great musicians and they had fun on stage.
Then fame corrupted them. I saw the show for the 2nd Law tour (not a good record either) and their entire show was choreographed. Every movement they made, every place they stood, all of their actions and inactions were all predesigned and adhered to with strictness. The energy they brought to previous shows was gone and replaced by pretentious, forced stage presence.
You see it in every record they have released starting with Resistance. Their music became pretentious, and the creativity was sapped.
It's sad, because I was a huge fan until they changed. Yes I agree they would've been great for the SB pre 2010. Now? Ugh...

I don't know if it was the fame or if they were just determined to keep exploring new sounds and shoving them into the Muse aesthetic.
Origin of Symmetry
Absolution
Black Holes and Revelations
3 back to back great, boundary stretching albums. Resistance felt like the window of creative possibility slammed shut immediately. Something about the walk through motion of the songs made it clear they were on a downward trajectory.

Weren’t they predicted to be the next Led Zeppelin around 2011 or so?

In the early/mid-00s, they were declared by our esteemed music critic overlords to be ripoffs of both Queen and Radiohead.
Never heard the Led Zep comparison, but they're also a rock trio that found mainstream pop-ish success. Circa 2006 they were almost universally considered the best live rock band on the planet.

Not my favorite album but I would have loved to see their latest tour.
I've seen them 3 times and they're incredible live

This was the period when Bellamy married Kate Hudson and started having kids and basically took a break from Muse. I remember reading an interview during the recording of 2nd Law where he essentially said he was letting the other members write and record most the album and he was going to come in later and finish it, almost like an executive producer. I didn’t have high hopes for that record after reading that. His divorce from Hudson did inspire Drones which was a good album but nowhere near the level of earlier albums.

I saw them on the 2nd law tour and while nowhere near their prime, it was still a fantastic show.
I honestly think this was their best show. At least of the online shite.
If you ignore their prior work, I think Resistance is a pretty solid album. Absolution is a god damn masterpiece though.

Their live shows were always a spectacle once they could afford it. The black holes tour was just as produced as 2nd law. Album wise, yeah they've declined considerably. When we saw them on 2nd law, choreographed or not, it was still a hell of a show. They're a tight group and it didn't disappoint.

This sounds like some Julian Casablancas shite
Believe he hid out in Europe for a year and just emailed vocal tracks back to the rest of the band on one of their records.
