There was a thread on this yesterday. I believe it stated Danny said they will be recording this summer with release either late this year or early 13'

Yes, Im the one that stated that... They plan on being in the studio June/July and it taking anywhere from 1.5-3 months to complete...

Likely release will be late 2012/early 2013.

I wouldn't put a 12/21/12 release date out of the realm of possibility.

It's Tool so I say if you think December of this year, it'll probably be six months after that. So May 2013.

I loved Tool when I was in college but once 10,000 days came out I realized they are about as versatile as AC/DC. Same shite every time.

I can see how 10,000 Days sounds the same as other work they have done, but from Opiate-> Undertow->Aenima->Lateralus there was some major progression. In my opinion, the tension between the band during the recording of Lateralus made that their best work.

almost 100% sure this is their last album, ever

they are getting old and it's the last album they are contractually obligated to make. ive heard maynard slam the actual compact disc while with a perfect circle, so i have little doubt this will be tool's last official album...i can see various single releases on the internet though

so basically they can take however long they want

Well, to be honest... There has been talk of the new album for a good year. Supposedly the writing started last summer and was speculated to be released mid this year.

Danny has officially come out and said they will be in the studio June/July.

But like someone else said, I really think this will be Tools last album. Maynards heart is in other places these days (Wine and Puscifer) and they are getting into their upper 40s now.

I could definitely see Danny, Justin, and Adam doing an acoustic album of some sort down the road

I think it's important to remember that even if the music is 100% done, Adam still has to make the album artwork. That takes a while as well.

Id be the instrumental portion is about 90% done at this point. In the interview Danny was pretty specific on how long it takes each of them to do their portion of the song, but he didn't say anything about Maynard.

As for the artwork, I'd imagine that Adam has already been working on it. The guys were together for almost a month on the last tour and their guys confirmed that they were working on new stuff during sound checks. I can't imagine that Adam wasn't doodling and showing the guys his ideas while traveling.

But for all of the haters, this is normal for tool. Its about 5yrs between each album. We are slightly over that, but I don't mind if this is their last album. I just hope its mind blowing.

Quite possibly the worst take of all time.

Wow, I completely missed his comment earlier... 10k was a completely different album from the others. None of their 5 albums are near the same imo.

I second that... I def don't think that 10k days is their best, but you have to respect the album for what it is.

There is some solid material on there. The shift in Maynards lyrics to more of a Christian based thought it very interesting. But of course, the album was a tribute to his highly religious mother. The instrumentals are very complex and beautiful on their own. Wings1/Wings2 are amazing.

I honestly think they go back towards Lateralus/Aenima type beats with this one. I had read somewhere that the producer of the Lateralus Album is back for this one

I cannot wait to see what comes out on the last album. The last puscifer album is the best of the 3 so hopefully Maynard takes that motivation into TOOL and gives it a proper goodbye.

Update for you guys... This interview with Danny was just published.

So, you guys are back in writing mode right now?
Yes…Justin, Adam & I are working on some stuff and Maynard will join us in another month or so, once he finished up with his ‘other band’. We’d like to get in the studio by May or June and holpefully get our new record done by the fall…we’ll see how things go. Right now, we’re throwing riffs around and seeing what feels good. So far, it’s turning out to be a bit more on the heavier side…Adam is really rockin’ out, so it’s exciting.

The months moved up by one from his last interview and he speaks of Maynard in this one... Also, on the heavier side

My feelings exactly!

If this is the last album, like I expect it to be, I hope they go balls to the wall.

Like I posted earlier, Danny has said they are working in 17's, 19's and 21's... Expect some crazy shite.
