Is rap/hip-hop the only genre with 'diss tracks'?

The only thing I can think of that comes close are a few Eric Church songs.

These 'diss tracks' are really immature.

Lennon and McCartney got into it in the 70s, "Too Many People" and "How Do You Sleep."

It happens in rock but not as much. Crying Like a Bitch by Godsmack and Starfrickers Inc by NIN are a few examples.

Enemy by Sevendust was about Coal Chamber's Dez Fafara.

When your biggest hit and most well-known song is a diss track, that's pretty significant, IMHO.

Don´t forget Richard Starkey´s scathing Back Off Bugaloo (aimed at Macca).

"I Hate Led Zeppelin" by Screeching Weasel.

A lot of "Range Life" by Pavement makes fun of successful acts like Smashing Pumpkins ("they don't serve no function"), but I don't think they actually had a beef with Billy Corgan, they just used band names that flowed well ("Stone Temple Piltos, they're elegant bachelors..."). It's actually kind of nonsense.

Mudhoney took on Courtney Love with "Into Your Shtik" ("Why don't you blow your brains out, too?"). Which is great because they knew her personally nd were friends with the guys in Nirvana.

Bob Dylan pretty much invented the diss track in 1965 with "Like A Rolling Stone," "Ballad of a Thin Man," and "Positively 4th Street."

Taking Back Sunday and Brand New had a fun back and forth back in the day including using the same lines at each other notably

quote:

And is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back.
So let's end this call, and end this conversation.

Best lines imo

quote:

Is that what you call a getaway / Tell me what you got away with / Because I’ve seen more spine in jellyfish / I’ve seen more guts in 11-year-old kids / Take another drink and drive yourself home / I hope there’s ice on all the roads / And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt / And again when your head goes through the windshield

And TBS responds

quote:

Those words at best were worse than teenage poetry / Fragment ideas and too many pronouns /Stop it, come on, you’re not making sense now.
