That was an amazing performance no doubt!

Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots had great ones, but the GOAT of Unplugged shows is and always will be the one by Alice in Chains. The way Layne Staley looked like he knocking on Death's door yet gave a performance like that. It's something I'll never forget.

Jerry himself had a stomach bug and was puking right up until showtime. He even had a trash can off camera at his feet just in case.
One of the most iconic moments in music as far as I’m concerned is during Down in a Hole; the moment right after Layne just nails the first chorus, during “my wings have been so denied”, Jerry looks over at Inez and smiles. It just hits me in my soul in many levels and no telling the happiness those guys felt at that moment, knowing in the back of their minds they wouldn’t have an opportunity like that again.
Such a beautiful performance.

10,000 Maniacs set the standard for that show.

I was specifically referring to the other songs from the Unplugged show.
However, for albums, Operation: Mindcrime amd Empire are much better.

I just recently watched some of that one. AIC was my favorite from that era and I still listen to them almost daily. Kills me that Layne couldn't stop his path to death, but everyone got this last great opportunity to see him. I don't see many live recording of them, i search streaming platforms here and there. And sadly I never saw them live with Layne, only minus Layne. The one chance I had I was too fricked up or broke or both I can't remember

How that performance didn’t spark an entire genre of unplugged, juke-joint rap is beyond me.
