Deer Tick is one of my favorite bands right now. I pretty much love everything John McCauley touches -- Middle Brother, Diamond Rugs, Deer Tick. Hell, I love Those Darlins, his wife's band.

To be honest, what you listed as a counter to mine doesn't make a lot of sense. It would be like me asking if you guys know lesser known MLB players, and you countered with asking if I know lesser known professional bowlers. Probably not the best analogy, but maybe you get what I'm trying to say.

Agree on Band of Horses. I like a few songs a lot, but overall don't get the hype. They have a great name and have always had great artwork and imagery, I think that plays into it.

Brittany would be a cool chick to hang out with, I love her soul. She seems so comfortable in her skin, yet she is not attractive at all. I like that.

I knew my analogy wouldn't make a lot of sense.
I guess I listed a lot of bands that are not mainstream, but kind of are..They are on the radar to the people that live just one level below the surface, it that makes sense.
Some of them are pretty popular. Headline festivals, sell out venues most places they go. And are highly regarded for lyrical skills.
You listed many electronic bands, some that aren't active anymore, a David Allen Coe album..
And as far as who's list is better, the great thing about music is it's subjective. It's only what matters to each individual listener.. so yours is better to you, that's all that matters.
But, I'll inject that if you want to argue about it, there aren't many bands you listed that are big draws or headliners at festivals. A guy like John McCauley is highly regarded in music right now, in a couple super groups besides Deer Tick. Jim James is also a guy that is highly regarded, in super groups of his own too, has a radio show, a tv show did an episode about his band.. I mean, if we were to argue about it, but I'm not (haha).

That's not a bad assessment.
(I think the term hipster get's tossed around too much, but yeah, I know what you mean). What I mean, is I think the term hipster always has a negative connotation attached to it (and rightfully so in many cases), but really there a lot of versions of people that aren't mainstreamers. I'd say a band like Real Estate is very hipster, stuff like Tame Impala and things like that are very hipster. I don't really think a band like Deer Tick or MMJ is hipster, yet many hipsters do listen to them.

The National - One of the only times I truly enjoyed a show without ever hearing the band before. They played before the Avetts at Bonnaroo, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lead guy was great, went out into the crowd and was just awesome. I liked it a lot. (He was drinking white wine though... ) But I think that fits the music. I've heard that Coldplay has ripped them off.
Titus Andronicus - Yes, fun live. But not something I listen too at home.
Built to Spill - Yes, but not really apart of me anymore. I used to be a Modest Mouse guy, so this went with that.. but has been years since I listened to this stuff much. But yes, very good.
Dismemberment Plan - Haven't listend to them..
Neural Milk Hotel- I've always liked the sound, and always have been interested by their band name, but haven't listened to them close enough.
Sunset Rubdown - Haven't heard of them. Listened to a couple quick on youtube, liked it, could tell it was quality. I could see people that like Arcade Fire liking this.
Cloud Nothings - I'm not gonna lie, youtubed a couple songs... hated it. Cool band name though.
New Pornographers - yes
Animal Collective - double yes.
The Knife - Cool sound, probably not something I'd listen to at home, but would watch live.
