and my reply was; Wut? I think you have that backwards man.

Dude I work with was stoked for Eminem's new album coming out/or that came out and one of the reasons he said he loves Marshall so much is the sentence in the title.

I'm still flabergasted.

He said he wasn't allowed to listen to secular music growing up. (which opened up a whole new line of questioning how fricked up his childhood was) Dad was a cop, home-schooled, 4 yrs as a marine, 13 months in the sandbox, now alcoholic.

What are some things you've heard from people about artists or bands that just floored you in their assinineness?

Well kids today listen to Eminem more than they do Dre or Snoop. So if they listen to Eminem and see who inspired him, I can see them being introduced to older and influential artists that way.

I'm not saying "introduced" in the sense that they're learning of Dre and Snoop through Eminem (being those 2 are pretty much household names in rap) as much I'm saying they started listening to them to see why they were influential to later artists, therefore being "introduced" to their music.

I didn't buy a dre album until he was dead and locked up in shady's basement.

Dre may have introduced eminem to the world, but it introduced a lot of us to dre as well.

Exactly. I didn't have a clue who Dre was until Eminem started talking about him in all of his songs.

so what? at least he found a way to retrace his way back through music history. who cares when or how he did it? your post sorta smacks of pretension because no one is born into total knowledge of musical taste.

oh and also eminem is a far, FAR superior emcee than Dr Dre. Dre produced some classics, but comparatively Eminem shits on him lyrically.

Dre has a grand total of 2 solo albums which are about 13 and 20 old now. Not exactly ubiquitous.

The guy is 33 yrs old. He should know something about N.W.A. and the west coast gangsta rap that Dre was part of pioneering.
