..and I put myself in that group. Grew up on Strait, Coe, Haggard, Gosdin, even Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Randy Travis etc.
But in terms of modern country I have to admit that Luke Combs sounds great. Quite a few really good songs in the last few years. Nobody else in the last few years has caught my ear like him.

Rap is way better than new country music

Cody Jinks is good. Saw him at the Varsity a few years ago. He's much bigger than that now. And I don't like tractor rap stuff either.

I hated country music growing up and into adulthood. I was mostly exposed to stuff that was on the radio and just could not stand the cliche lyrics and the twangy singing.
I think it was Johnny Cash that first started to pique my interest. His stuff always felt "real" to me and I liked his grit. But it was pretty much just him is who I ever gave a chance for a long time...until Sturgill came along. Metamodern opened my eyes to a different side of country. I can appreciate the outlaw country style a lot more now, though I still don't care for mostly everything else.

I had to learn a Luke Combs tune ( When It Rains It Pours) for a gig and assumed I'd hate it. I found myself liking it.
Some other similar artists I find myself liking are the Randy Rogers Band ( Drinking Money) and Midland ( Cheatin' Songs).

Tony Jackson, William Michael Morgan, Riley Green are some of my newer favorites

Saw randy when his first cd came out. He opened for Cory morrow I think. Also William Clark green is good.

I like them but they are a rock band. Southern rock is more country than country these days tho I guess.
