That was such an iconic guitar, it's crazy to think he shelved it. Of course, anything associated with Oasis he might want to be clear of. Maybe just plays it at home or in the studio.

They're a very good band. Solid lineup.

I think that's a pretty dumb name for a band, but whatev's. I'll have to check them out

He stopped playing it after the What's the Story Morning Glory tour. Hasn't played it in public since 1996.

NGHFB songs of note:
Ballad of the Mighty I
While the Song Remains the Same
Everybody's on the Run
The second album is better as a total album. It is better listened to one after the other.
The first album has 5 songs. 2 ok. and 2 shite

Went to Spotify and started Riverman. Sounded just like Oasis at the beginning, especially with the Beatles ripoff line "something in the way she moves..."

But liked it.

I like a couple Oasis songs but it just all seems strange how seriously they seem to take themselves

in '95 Oasis released (What's the Story?) Morning Glory, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Wonderwall", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I fricking love Oasis...they were doing something completely different than the 90's, Seattle grunge act. They were a bunch of Limey's who basically didn't give a shite what anyone thought. It's a shame the two Gallagher's had such a feud, but it is what it is. Their personalities and egos were essentially too big to fit on one stage. Thanks for the great music!

Oasis's B-Sides are better than most bands Singles/albums. I would disagree that Wonderwall is their "masterpiece." It's their most well known song, but far from their best. I'd say "Some Might Say" is their most "Oasis-y" song.

I think "roll with it" is the most oasis song ever... Seeing Liam sing that was like seeing Brett Farve throw a ridiculous pass on the run

They were also so much different than the other BritPop acts at that time. Listen to pre-"blur" Blur and others. The first song from "Definitely Maybe," "Rock n Roll Star," was Noel's thesis statement and the band didn't look back.
quote:

I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out

The day's moving just too fast for me

I need some time in the sunshine
I've gotta slow it right down
The day's moving just too fast for me

I live my life for the stars that shine
People say it's just a waste of time
When they said I should feed my head
That to me was just a day in bed
I'll take my car and drive real far

You're not concerned about the way we are

In my mind my dreams are real
Now you're concerned about the way I feel

Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star
Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star

Rock N Roll Star

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when (What's the Story?) Morning Glory came out, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Noel has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

I'd recommend the full remastered/deluxe edition that contains all of b-sides from that era. I don't know how much Oasis you've listened to, but I know that those b-sides are a must for any fan.

Their music, attitude, and actions all mirror their upbringing and their idols as do most artists. I guess what he meant was Manchester was a shite-hole where poverty was the norm. The Gallagher's were brought up in the Burrow, basically estates (housing projects). Their dad beat them, there were no jobs and no future to look forward to. Noel escaped real life by listening to music and then becoming a roadie.
Manchester or Madchester had been the centerpoint of british musical revolution in the late 80s and music was important to the people there. There were a ton of music clubs, rehearsal space, and dreams.

thank you

That was the goal of this thread: to learn. As a boy that grew up in Arkansas there's no way I would have known that stuff. To me it's always felt like they were just trying to seem hard and it just comes off as fake when you don't know their background.

Noel had all the talent and I actually like his voice better than Liam.

Noel's version of Wonderwall is way better than the original IMO LINK

Also, songs where Noel does vocals (Masterplan, Don't Look Back in Anger, Acquiesce) are great.
