I don't think the Highwaymen sounded very good.

They are all 4 badasses in their craft. But Johnny was past his prime and croaking like a bullfrog, Kris could never carry a tune in a bucket, Willie was Willie and Waylon didn't know what planet he was on. I like the Highwaymen buts it not really for the music they made. For listening sake I'll take the Traveling Wilburys for my old fossil collaboration of choice.

Have a downvote. I can maybe agree that the production quality at Chips Moman's hands was a bit 80's. But the songs themselves are mostly incredible.

There's a Keith Urban record somewhere that has your name all over it.

I know. Your mom buys terrible gifts. But anyway I'm right. The songs like the Highway Man where they do separate parts are fine enough. Songs like their cover of Desperatos Waiting for a Train when they try to harmonize and shite are pretty awful. But think what you will.

Willie was smoking too much weed and Waylon was drinking and doing too much cocaine. They weren't completely in sync with their substances. It made for a subpar product.

No I'm not Walt. I'm just not kidding myself anymore by thinking they had a good sound just because they were the icons they were. . For the most part it was poorly arranged with sub par vocals performances by aging, really fricked up superstars. It was genius and made a lot of money. It was not high quality music. Go back and re-listen. .

At the time, I thought The Highwayman song was great, and loved the production of it,and the way that they sang it.

It sounds dated now,but everything from that period does.

Highwaymen (1960s folk group)

"Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" and "Cottonfields" were their hits.

I actually remember them, but I am pretty sure that he was referring to Cash/jennings/Krisofterson/Nelson (The Highwaymen)

It's true. He is a great songwriter and a creative genius. But his voice sounds like arse. Still great, though.

I'm not really a country fan, but do have tons of respect for the older legends. I literally know of no other song they put out besides "The Highway Man." And I absolutely love that song. When were they together, though? And for how long? How many albums did the record?

The "super" country group thing has always been tough to pull off. While I enjoyed the Highwaymen, I always felt it was more than a little contrived.

And yes, Carl is correct, Kris isn't a vocalist. At least not in the classic sense.
