How to settle creative disputes between band members?

For those on this board that have gigged in bands for a long time, I have a question about an issue that I am facing in one of my bands, and I am curious if you have faced similar problems:
1. I put together a band to play pop punk covers in early 2020 (pre-Covid)
2. Covid hit right before we were gig ready.
3. During Covid, we could not practice together in person.
4. Also during Covid, I started recording a solo project of music in the same genre under the band name because I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to get back together as a full band.
5. The band has gotten back together and started practicing again.
6. Some of the members really love the original songs that I recorded. They want to learn and perform them as well as contribute a few originals of their own.
7. Some members just want to stick with covers because the time commitment to relearn the covers is significantly less, gigs will be easier to come by, and we would likely make way more money.
I feel like the band is split between two very different directions:
A. A low-effort fun cover band that plays 3hr gigs at bars for a little extra income every now and then.
B. A serious creative project focused on songwriting and playing hour-long sets with mostly original musicians for the joy of sharing our creativity (because we probably won’t be making much money).
I feel like either direction that the band goes in will leave at least half the members unsatisfied. How do I settle this dispute? Do I:
a. Pick a direction and try to replace the members that disagree with it
b. Half-arse both directions and try to compromise between the two
c. disband the band and just keep recording on my own
d. Something else?

I would figure out what you want to do fist and foremost. then have an honest conversation with them about your decision, and it'll work itself out.
lmk if you want to record in a studio.

Kick the lesser talented one out and hire a gun
..then wait a few years when they are on hard times, hopefully with an addiction. Offer then a penny's on the dollar cash option to sign over any rights they have on the albums.
Then re-release them lol

But a serious answer..
Id go with the originals. Its been a repetitive 2 years and people need fresh air.
Put your songs out, plant that seed. Never know where it will lead.

I don’t know what that is, but it sounds intriguing. Go on…

America is lost.
Really, you've never been in a pinecone battle? You better not go this route, because you will lose, but if you do, make sure to grab the greenest pinecones.

I mean, I grew up playing baseball with ponecones and sticks, but we didn’t chunk them at one-another like snowballs.

Bob,
are you talking about the BB band?

Why not do both? Keep the cover band side project for weekend, fun, easy gigs. And continue to work on your original songs and present them with bandmates/musicians interested in coming onboard for that effort.

No, different project. BB has a whole different set of issues, but mostly logistics. BB is starting to really click creatively and financially, but is growing into new problems.
BB started out all original but pivoted to covers to help us afford recording and what-not.
This is a small side project playing a very different genre of music. I’m already really busy with BB, which is often a source of stress. This new group was designed to be a way to blow off steam.

IMO- unless some of the members are complete turds it should be easy to do both. You’ve already recorded the originals and that makes it easier to learn. Kind of like learning a cover of a song by anyone else.

Kinda the opposite. You didn’t want to start something you couldn’t finish. You might try throwing pinecones and get bashed in the back of a head with a brick

ah well, usually pinecone battles would happen in the woods, and pinecones, sticks, small rocks and acorns would be the only ammo available that you could throw easily.

Really though, maybe some of the other members have some originals too? Maybe start out with a couple of yours, and a couple of theirs thrown in with mostly covers at first, and try to collaborate on new stuff.
It's hard to have a band that is willing to get behind you, doing originals at first.

Not a musician, but I was going to suggest maybe play the covers but work in a few original songs as well during the gigs if that's at all possible. See what the reaction was to the originals, and if it was positive, move in that direction.
But, after seeing this:
it seems like then you would have two groups doing the same thing, just in opposite directions and I can't believe that would be very fun.

So, there’s 5 members in total.
I have my stuff which I recorded in a studio. I have 3 songs in the can, 2 songs recorded with a different band that could work, and probably a dozen more songs that could be worth recording eventually.
Two of them have been messing around with a home studio setup and recorded a handful of songs missing vocals.
One has a couple songs he wrote that he is kinda self-conscious about and doesn’t want to really perform.
The last guy has little interest in playing any originals and has none of his own in this genre. He already knows most of the covers fairly well. I’m concerned at least one of my originals might be too difficult for him to learn quickly. He could do it, but it would take a lot more time than just polishing a few covers that he’s been listening to for 15 years.
We have about 5 weeks until our first possible show and need to decide where to focus our time. Everyone has a full time job and another band that takes priority over this one.
