How much difference does a recording's quality make to you?

I borrowed some of Dad's Led Zeppelin CD's. I like the music, but the recording quality isn't that great (seems like it might be an issue with the original tapes). It lacks depth and richness, and in some cases, clarity (and I'm factoring the type of music too). Old Rolling Stones music is the same way.
With a good modern recording, it sounds like they are playing in the music room with you.
There are also older recordings that are great. Duke Ellington's "Ellington 55" is a high fidelity monaural recording (at least the one I have) and it is still very crisp and clean.
Does this bother you? I may just be desensitized from listening to jazz and classical where production quality is usually high,

Huge, but I've "produced" some music before, I've even bootlegged a few Dax Riggs shows from the soundboard that still circulate to this day.
I was heavy into bootlegs when I was playing shows and opening for dax back in 2002-2005. I would always go after the highest quality ones.
I can't listen to low quality recordings.
Remasters are some of the best things ever to happen to those older albums.

Makes a huge difference for me, part of the reason I pay for spotify premium. You can definitely notice the quality difference.
I wouldn't by any means call myself an audiophile, but it's very noticeable when a track has poor producing. It's less noticeable when a track is really well-produced, but it definitely matters. Sometimes I'll listen intently at a song I actually kinda hate just because it's mixed so damn well
ETA: I couldn't stand any of the burned CDs my friends would make from bullshite from limewire and such. I'd rather call a radio station and wait for 40 minutes to hear a song over the air than the over-compressed garbage from those sites.

Me too. I have a music room and I love to kick back and listen to cleanly recorded music. I like when you can here the upright bass player striking the wood, or the singer's breath in.
I need to get used to headphones, but I greatly prefer to listen to the music on speakers.
ETA: Marvin Gaye's recordings seem clean, Smoky Robinson's "Tears of a Clown" is awful.

That's why they've remastered all the old stuff. Lots of them were shite on CD, quality wise. No bottom end, just really thin.

when CDs first came out the technology was not there to make the analog (vinyl) to digital (CD) transfers without a major loss of fidelity
is what it is for CD's of that vintage.
seek out the more recent remasters

Depends....I find the early Beatles albums sound better on mono than stereo format.
