It is entirely possible that he was checking his watch for the timing of the flyover. I noticed he did the anthem very slowly. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would also argue that the songs that are considered "classics" and great "classing rock" songs today weren't played on the radio near as much back when they were released either
they had shitty pop songs on the radio a lot back in the 60s/70s/early 80s too...but as time goes by all the shitty, unoriginal plain jane crap goes away and the really good stuff sorts itself out and rises to the top

Listen to My Morning Jacket or Jamey Johnson. Lyrics are excellent. It's just a matter of the difference between pop music that is easily sold to the masses and music that is written as art.

Frank Ocean has wrote songs for Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Brandi, et cetra.
It's not the song writer's that have fallen off, it's just that they get paid to write shitty songs with mass appeal.
Frank Ocean's solo stuff has fantastic writing, but when he writes for other artists it's pretty terrible.

My point exactly. Jamey Johnson writes crap pop country to sell to the more mainstream guys, and uses that so that he can write and sing whatever he damn well pleases. Who would guess that the same guy that wrote "Honky Tonk Badankadonk" is the same dude that wrote "Leave You Alone" or "Is It Raining At Your Place"?

I must speak up in defense of Love Me Do.
While the lyrics are obviously not sophisticated, consider they were teenagers.
This song, along with many other early singles and the first three Beatles albums, features elements of rhythmic structure and unconventional chord progression that evince great originality. They took the influence of Buddy Holly and American blues singers and added some odd notes and chords where they hadn't been heard before, even in their early "unsophisticated" pop songs.
They were not educated in music theory, but they heard pop music in ways it had never been heard before, and elevated it.
Look at the chords for "All my lovin'" sometime and I defy you to find a song prior to it that sounded like that.
Have you ever tried to play the baseline for "I saw her standing there"? It is some virtuoso shite. Chords are simple, but it is a ripping performance.
I'm telling you, the early Beatles shite gets a very bad rap. They were innovating before they even knew what that meant.
Nothing was ever the same after it, including every single thing you all are listening to today.
