Guitar playing stagnation. How to meet guitar friends??

How the hell do you meet "guitar people"? I don't want to be in a band. No delusions of grandeur. Just know my playing has hit a snag. I ned to meet people who are better than me (not a high bar) that force you to learn and improve.

I am in Houston/Katy, and those both sound like bars? I'm not ready for a stage. LOL. Can I sip beer in a corner with an acoustic and strum along, watch some dude play some lead and try to copy.... quietly?

Uh, yeah. Just bring an electric and strum along unplugged while you watch. If you google “Houston Blues Jams” I’m sure you’ll find some in your area.

Yes to the above, start with social media. The "Baton Rouge Musicians" page on Facebook is filled with local and surrounding area guitarists. Surely there are similar pages for Houston musicians, bands, guitarists. Start by going to local gigs being pimped on those pages. Best way to meet like-minded people is to actually get out in public where they flock.
Teachers/lessons: There is no rule that says you have to stay with the same teacher for extended periods. Get a new teacher(s) as a rut buster ... tell him or her you're in a rut and you need some fresh ear candy, some fresh ideas, and that you only want to take, say, a month or two of weekly lessons. Do that with a handful of teachers over the course of a year. Be sure to ask them for recommended artists/genres to explore.
Open jams are also a great idea. You learn how to play tennis not by watching YouTube vids or reading books, you learn by getting a racket and swinging it, absolutely sucking initially and gradually sucking less and less as you get reps in and acquire it. Everyone on that jam stage sucked before they didn't.
Wouldn't hurt to go hang out at Rockin' Robin and Fuller's Vintage on a few Saturdays as well. Again, get out where the like-minded are flocking. Plus some really cool non-Guitar Center usual ho-hum to test-drive. Hell, a killer new-to-you vintage guitar can be a stellar rut buster and you don't necessarly have to spend a fortune to get a sweet classic. My personal 40s and 60s nostalgia acoustics (Harmony/Kay family pieces) currently run about $600 and $350 on the vintage market, and that's for very clean and 100 percent structurally sound examples. You don't have to spend five figures to get absolutely killer vintage pieces.

+1. Also open mics are a good place to meet people. I met some of my really good friends and bandmates at these type of things.

I go to Fullers a bunch. Rocking Robin was snooty.
Of course read enough yelp reviews and so does fullers. BTW they took vintage out of the name I believe. Still have them though. And a great Taylor room to paw at.

Music store.
I'm sure "Facebook" (whatever that is) has some groups.
Youtube is my only companion. I haven't played regularly in so long, I might as well be a novice again - not that I was much past that at any point - I was probably an "advanced" beginner or just crossing into intermediate before life happened.

This. Just go play some displays on a regular basis. Between familiarity with staff and other customers you're bound to meet a broad range of talent. Hell I can't take a piss without bumping into someone who plays guitar. I feel like in every group of 5 strangers, 4 of them play guitar at some capacity.
