better rating system would be 1) people want to pay to see you play 2) good enough to get paid to play 3) shouldn't be on stage, good around the camp fire 4) should just play with buddies 5) sell your instrument
On this scale, I'm a 4.5

I like this rating system better also I would consider myself a unfortunate 4.

10 years (really only 8 on account of 2 deployments and no guitar), and I am probably a 6. Funny though, I peaked at 6 probably after only 3 years. I just don't have the time or interest to practice out of my current skill level, and it's enough to keep me flexible on the type of songs I can play.
I want to learn piano, but I'm not sure if that's even possible to pick up at age 30.

Started playing at 10, also started with bass and drums at that age.
Depending on the day or how well I feel, I don't know. The music I play is a lot of tremelo picking, with duel harmony between lead and rhythm at sometimes 160+ bpm. When in the studio I'm the one playing each instrument, not ashamed to say sometimes I'll have to have 30+ takes on a part until I feel it's right. I don't know if that means I'm a bad player or uneasily pleased. Perhaps both.

I have been learning to play for 37 years, and just consider myself a middle of the road(5-6 I guess) level player.
2 things that have always been against me,as far as being a really good player,first.. I didn't learn right in the beginning..second..I have hands like a gorilla. Having long fingers can be a great advantage, but also having a long thumb fricks it all up.

Well, I am finally getting to where I can afford to spend some crazy money, and it's something that is important to me. I am talking to some people about some custom guitar neck profiles.
There really is more to it than just having long fingers and thumb,I was simplifying a bit.

Bout a 6, been playing about 13 years. I'm okay. My chops are garbage because I don't practice enough but I can improv a little bit and know some semblance of theory. I'm trying to pick it up again and really improve my finger picking. Will get a banjo soon.

Ain't got nobody to go my bail
Lawd have mercy, I got the TD blues
What did I do to make that admin sore?
Chicken's breakin' out the waterboard
Save me, Jesus, from them TD blues......

I've been playing since about 15 years old.
I'm about a 7. I can usually learn most things by ear. I can improv fairly well. My biggest problem these days is that I don't play enough.

I am still acoustic only. I do not want to jump down the wormhole of electric and amps and pedals.

He's right. The Rain Song is very easy...in open D. Bron y aur is even easier in open C
I've been playing a long time. Used to be proficient, but dont practice much anymore. It's the right hand, that kept me from being an above average player. Once you discover modes and understand how to incorporate them into your playing, the whole world changes.

Bought my 1st Guitar at 40.I'm 54 now.
On a scale of 1-10 I can only rate myself about a 5.I probably know around 80 Songs.I can learn to play a song in a short time if I know how it goes.
I've seen so many Guitar Players so much better than I am.
I entertain the heck out of myself. And I've got no problem playing for others.
Maybe when I'm 70 I'll be better.

I got my first real six-string
Bought it from Musician's Friend
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '94
Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we did the best we could do
In my mind, I'm about a 1.5
In reality probably closer to 2
