I'll go with the Police, since you already said Rush.
Didn't Motorhead occasionally play as a 4-piece? My old-arse memory is failing me...

I'm disqualifying GFR because they started as a trio, but were a 4-piece during their heyday (hell, Schacher and Brewer drag 3 other guys around with them now.)
I like your other choices and offer Triumph (the "other" Canadian trio) as the underrated power trio of all time.
And, what about The Police baw?
(Props for completely ignoring Green Day - posers.)

Yeah, they were a 4-piece for the mid-80s to mid-90s, with Wurzel on the second guitar. But, he wasn't replaced. They were a power trio in their heyday and the last 20 years (RIP Lemmy).
I'll allow it.

Didn't realize Grand Funk had another member. I've been on a GFR kick lately. Motorhead did for a period of time. But they are known as a 3 piece. Ace of Spades and the other major records at that time were with a 3 piece.
Triumph is a great selection. I like Green Day, but they don't belong in the greatest discussion.

My first concert was Triumph, on the Allied Forces tour. It was probably not the best choice for a first show to attend, because they set the bar at an unrealistically high level for everyone else that followed, lol
But man, by the time they got to 'A Sport Of Kings', they really lost their way & was trying too hard to chase the dollar IMO...but they did have a hell of a run before then!

Nirvana is a good trio. Had they been in longer they would've been in mine. They lasted for a short period of time. Cream being the initial supergroup, I thought they should be above Nirvana.
To add a little local flavor that is off the radar: Zebra

Can't mention trio without including CSN.

They were a trio with Farner, Brewer and Schacher from inception through E Pluribus Funk. Then they added Frost on keyboard for Phoenix (which they also produced, replacing their longtime producer Terry Knight with themselves). They actually tried to lure Frampton away from Humble Pie at the time, too. So, they were never committed to the power trio as a permanent alignment.
GFR was arguably the biggest (certainly of the biggest) American rock band from 1972 through 1976, and that was as a 4-piece with Farner, Brewer, Schacher and Frost. Closer to Home (probably their most enduring and highest quality work) was done as their initial power trio setup.
After Farner left, the remaining 3 formed a band called Flint (which was a trio - and all 4 of the "classic" GFR were from Flint, Michigan). Then Farner came back and he and Brewer reformed GFR without Schacher (adding Dan Bellinger on bass). But that didn't last and they broke up. The "classic" line reformed (albeit without Frost, instead having Howard Eddy on keys) in the mid 90s. Farner left again and now Schacher and Brewer lead the band as a 5-piece.

Rush's work from 1974-1981 alone is enough to warrant them being #1. When I think of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, I think of Jimi as a solo artist with two other members backing him up.

And, sadly, perception is reality. The JHE was a phenomenal band, though. Redding was difficult to deal with. Jimi could play bass almost as well as he could, and he was one of the best bass players in the world at the time. So, imagine, you look over at the guy challenging conventional wisdom about what a single coil, 6-string guitar could sound like, and know that he can that, plus your job if he had to.

Cream baw. The original supergroup.

Robin Trower with James Demar on bass and vocals would be in my top 3 or 4.
