Can't argue with this, but the most significant development in popular music in general, and rock & roll specifically, took place 25 July 1965 in Newport, NY.

Well, my personal entry in this area is Leonard Bernstein conducting the Berlin Philharmonic playing Beethoven's 9th Symphony in 1989 after the Berlin wall fell. The final movement changed the choral from "Ode to Joy" to "Ode to Freedom". Just thinking about the meaning and emotion there still brings tears to my eyes.
