Got an Eastman E20D in a trade today

Adirondack spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides. Also the top is "thermocured," thus baked in a kiln to replicate the aging process.
This is basically the equivalent of a Martin HD28 though technically "better" because of the Adi top vs the Sitka spruce top on an HD28.
She sounds amazing, big, loud, and bassy.
Also has an LR Baggs Anthem pickup

Enjoy all the people (or some) saying “what the hell is that”? When they hear it. Then pawing at it. Then making you offers.

What’s the advantage of Adirondack spruce over Sitka?
Congrats on the pick up.

I copied this from an online source:
quote:
As a tonewood adirondack stands out for its loud, lively and crystal clear voice, with a beautiful and deep layer. As a guitarist, you really can feel that the notes jump off your guitar at the slightest touch. As if that wasn't enough, adirondack also has more 'headroom'. That means it takes longer for the tones to lose their balance and sound a bit 'muddy' or distorted. A guitar with more headroom usually fits hard hitting players better
Obviously whether or not it's better is dependent on the player but it's usually seen as an upgrade from Sitka.

Eastman is SEVERELY underrated in the acoustic world IMO

I wouldn't mind coming across a used one for sale. I can't bring myself to buy anything new from china. The New Alverez Masterworks guitars are nice also, but they are made in china too.
I really need a good spruce top dreadnought with good electronics soon. Will probably go with a seagull entourage, or a Martin DRS2.

I had a Martin DRS2 before, wouldn't recommend.
Honestly bang for your buck, Eastman is one of the best IMO.
A quick search of used Eastmans on Reverb brought up an E8D which is basically this same guitar with a Sitka top instead of Adi (I own that model also) for $900 + shipping and a Fishman Sonitone piezo pickup.
I also see an E10SS which is basically the same as a Gibson J45 for $999.
On Marketplace, I can sometimes find better deals but I live in an area with two major Eastman dealers nearby. Most people would have to buy online.
I've owned 5 Martins, Eastmans are every bit as good in quality of build and materials as well as sound. IMO, I think they're actually better.
Definitely not the junk that is usually associated with Chinese guitars.

Like I said. I won't buy anything new from china. If I come across a used one at a low price, that would be OK.

I hope you can find one, you'll be blown away by the sound and quality at that price point.

Yeah, I know they're good. I wish they were being made some other place.

I tend to prefer used guitars more then I don't have to worry about giving them their first nick
Both Eastmans I have were used, now that I think about it, nearly every guitar I've ever had was used.

Same here, I do think I am about to order one of the mexican acoustasonic tellies though, in butterscotch blonde.

I've never played one before, but I've seen them getting pretty good reviews. I would have to actually play one before I bought it. Same with a seagull spruce top. I've never played a seagull with a spruce top, always cedar, and I've got a great cedar top Takamine already. It sounds beautiful, but it just doesn't have that country grunt that I need, and it doesn't have the factory electronics.

Have you ever played one of The Zager guitars? They are made in Lincoln Nebraska, reasonably priced too.

They're overbuilt IMO, muffles the sound to me.
I had a D16RGT in that price point once and it was pretty good.

Yeah, a friend had one.
They're made in China too IIRC and Zager just sets them up in America. I could be wrong on the country but I do remember that Zager doesn't actually build them.
It was okay but they seemed expensive for what they are to me.

They claim that they build them in Nebraska.

They may make some of their very highest end models in America but they were largely Asian made at one time.
Kind of a shady company IMO
Basically they just set them up and put light strings on and sell it as their "EZ Play system."
I've also heard that they manufacture parts overseas then assemble them in America so they can claim they're built in America.
Some people love them, I wasn't impressed with the one I played though for what it cost.

Yeah, I've never even seen one. A friend of mine mentioned them and I checked out their website, then they started spamming the hell out of me. Based on that, I agree that they seem shady.

They market online very aggressively, almost desperately.
