I was listening to that song last night and it struck me how much of a crap storm that song would create if it were to be released in 2019 america? It would create a debate on the floor of both houses of congress. I remember back then Axl got a little crap for the lyrics but nothing like it would be today.

I’m sorry I can’t link anything so I can’t link the YouTube song. Yea I know downvote away.

Axl got more than a little crap about it. He got grilled on MTV about it. GNR did some shows opening up for the Rolling Stones and the guys from Living Colour, who were the opening act for the whole Stones tour, ripped him from stage. And when they re-issued Lies back in the 90s, they dropped One in a Million from it.

It is funny how things change. I was listening to Ether, that dis song Nas did about Jay-Z about 15 years ago. He dropped a few gay slurs against Jay-Z. That would not fly today

For the lead singer of the "world's most dangerous band", he's certainly turned into a giant vagina

I always liked that song but I’ll agree, Axl Rose is one of the most arrogant, cocky and self centered pricks I’ve ever seen. But in the same breath, the other members of the classic G N’ R lineup were the spineless morons who allowed Axl Rose to intimidate them into signing over their rights to the band name and whatever else to him. He bent ‘em over and didn’t use any lube.

It came up on my playlist the other day at work, and I remember thinking how wild it must be for Slash nowadays to know he played on it, and at the same time it has what I consider to be one of his very best solos. He just absolutely nails it.

It came out right as I was graduating from high school, and I was a huge GNR fan. I really identified with the perspective at the time.

Things change bro.

That song has always been controversial. The lyrics are pretty cringeworthy. I don't know why you're implying it's bad to live in a time where most people would take issue with them.

2 Live Crew did that in 89

That's how we ended up with bullshite radio edits, but the genesis of all that started in the 50s

Fellow GN'R member Slash, whose mother is black, noted that he did not condone the song but did not condemn his bandmate, commenting in a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone: "When Axl first came up with the song and really wanted to do it, I said I didn't think it was very cool... I don't regret doing 'One in a Million', I just regret what we've been through because of it and the way people have perceived our personal feelings."[

In 1988, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin told rock critic Nick Kent that the lyrics simply reflected the poor race relations of inner city Los Angeles.[10] In a 2019 interview, McKagan said the song was misinterpreted, stating "One thing about Axl is if you’re going to try to compete with him intellectually, you’ve lost, because he’s a super smart guy... He’s a super sensitive dude who does his studies. When we did that song, I was still drinking but he was way ahead of us with his vision of, ‘Something’s gotta be said.’ That was the most hardcore way to say it. So flash-forward to now. So many people have misinterpreted that song that song that we removed it … Nobody got it.”

I guess I'm in the camp that doesn't get it.
