Kind of like Chevrolet or Ford. Which one do ya like better? Or PRS and whatnot?

I like 'em both. Never fallen in love with a PRS though.

Those are neat but kind of boutique. Once I was in Galveston of all places and a store was full of them.
I like Gibson necks so much I have it down to that. I have Gibson with humbuckers and single coils.

Depends on what I'm playing. I play on a Les Paul, which I love for playing rhythm guitar. It's clean tone is so rich and full. I sometimes like fender strats better for lead parts, though.

Gibson L5. The ultimate jazz box.

It's a strange comparison. If you get a great Gibson it absolutely cannot be beat. There's a reason late 50s and early 60s Les Pauls fetch six figures. But if you get a lousy Gibson from an off year it can be the most soul-sucking guitar experience you'll ever have.
By comparison, (American made) Fender guitars are really good across the board because their build quality has always been amazingly consistent. And Fenders are fascinating because even within the same model you can have huge variations in the tone. I have a 2008 strat and a 1963 strat and my brother has a 1974 strat. They all have very different tones.
It's 100% apples and oranges to me.

Rickenbacker.
12-strings FTW. One of my bandmates has a 12, another a Rick-6.

It's somewhat of apples to oranges but I've always been a Fender strat guy.
Although a thinline tele is also a helluva guitar.
I've also owned an SG too.
My love of fenders comes from the single coil tone and the neck. I have never found a Gibson with a neck I like as much as my 95 USA strat.

fender strat is the most versatile electric, and I prefer the tone. I also love teles.
GIbson ES 335 and GIbson L5 are though

I have a telecaster that I bought in 85. Liked it at the time and have kept it for sentimental reasons but do not really care for it now.

I'll Echoplex "both." If we're talking about pure Gibson (24.75 scale, mahogany set neck construction, humbuckers) versus pure Fender (25.5 scale, maple bolt neck, singles), they are two quite desirable but very different voices and players under your hands. I want both in my toybox depending on my needs, wants, moods at any given time.
If only one or the other, I'd go with Fender, strictly because 25.5 bolts were what I used when I developed as a player many, many years ago so they're the really comfy scale for me, and I can do more tonally that's away from its signature sounds. I think I can do a better job mocking 'bucker tones with a stock strat or tele than I can do mocking single coils with a LP, SG or an ES.

Between these 2, I'd go with Fender. I've had both and I like both, though.

I like both fender and gibson, but neither touch Rickenbacker

I prefer Fender (Strats and Teles, primarily) but appreciate the effort of some of the Gibsons, particularly Les Pauls which are works of art.
