Fretshack, is your blue D'Angelico guitar the Premier SS model, or the Deluxe SS?

There is a really great deal on their Premier SS model right now in the ocean turquoise color. 44% markdown on a new one.
I suppose the SS stands for " Stair Step", I've always called that design theme "waterfall", like you said before in another thread, it's really "Art Deco".
On both models the tailstop, tuners and truss rod cover have that step design. It's cool stuff.

I have the Premier. It was the lower line behind what they called at the time the "Excel" I think, only because it came with Duncan Designed pickups instead of actual Duncans.
I took care of its pickup deficiency. It's now far from deficient. :)

I may jump on that deal, it's a great price on a beautiful guitar. The Premier SS and the Deluxe SS, look identical except for the pickup difference, but there's a $1,000.00 price difference.
And like you say, it aint a problem to solve shortcomings, and it doesn't cost anywhere close to a thousand bucks.

Didn't wanna summon you in another thread, but for a banjo tuner for drop D (doing a project tele to try to just make it Waylon-ish). I have heard bad things about the hot shots. Are the Kieth's worth the money or are Schaller's fine for a project guitar in your opinion? I guess the real question is will these fit without drilling or alter the other tuning keys if they are vintage fender styled lockers?

I am having problems deciphering what you are asking. I think you seek suggestions for a drop D tuner/lever for a Telecaster with a specific tuner footprint?
If so, you should start another thread. I've only installed Hipshots and unlike the bad things you have heard, all of my clients have been pleased.
I've never seen a Hipshot with a locking vintage Fender-style tuner footprint (that would likely be a Kluson). A new thread will possibly open the floor to more voices of experience.
